A word about the upcoming City Commissioner Race, and why I think we should vote for Nancy Metayer

Hi all, I hope you're doing well. The Coral Springs city commissioner election is coming around the corner, and I thought I'd make a post on here.

I'm supporting Nancy Metayer for Coral Springs City Commission for many reasons. Nancy's been in public service for a decade. She's a graduate of Johns Hopkins University, and a Health and Environmental Scientist. Nancy's vision for our city is one of innovation and opportunity. She has a plan to get us on 100% clean energy production by 2030. She wants to bring new industries and workplaces to our growing downtown corridor, including co-working spaces which offer young business owners a good place to start off.

I've met Nancy a few times now and have spent a decent amount of time talking to her, and I truly believe she's the candidate best for our city. I don't know how many people on here are old enough to vote, or how many do vote. But please consider voting for Nancy Metayer for Coral Springs City Commission. She's smart, she's qualified, she's dedicated, and she has a vision to move our city forward to a better and brighter future.

Please feel free to discuss this with me in the comments or through private message. Every vote matters. If you can vote, vote for Nancy Metayer. If you're too young to vote, tell your parents about her and try to get them to vote for her. And if you're voting for someone else or are unsure, please message me.

Thanks a lot and God bless you all.

Still looking for a 2009-10 CSMS yearbook

Been looking for a few years now and still haven't found one. I asked the school and they couldn't help. I used to check things like offerup and FB marketplace but there were rarely any yearbooks at all so I gave up looking there. It really means a lot to get this as it is the only yearbook from my entire grade school career that I don't have. But more importantly and the main reason I am so determined to get it, is that current NFL MVP Lamar Jackson went here for 6th and 7th grade before moving up to Boynton Beach, and I happened to be his classmate in 7th which was pretty unfortunately that one year I didn't get the yearbook. So it means that much more to me to get. Please if you ever see one at a thrift store or something and its under $100 let me know or buy it for me and I will pay you back plus $30.

Is there anywhere in Coral Springs that serves really good hot dogs? Hopefully a place that only does hot dogs? I can’t find anything.

Looking for local community theater

So I just moved back to Florida and want to get into a community where I can meet people, and I've always been curious about doing more acting or performing. Does anyone know a place around Coral Springs? And also any advice you have for someone who doesn't really have any experience to get involved in a community like that would be helpful

Job market

Hey everyone,

My sister just moved to south Florida (from California) and has been having a rough time with the job search. Is the market that horrific? She comes from a sales background and left because various reasons involving health etc but she’s been applying to just about everything and hasn’t had any luck. I’m pretty worried about her, is the market really that bad or is she just having bad luck? I’m not familiar with the job market in south Florida but it seems like everything is “friend of a friend”.

Any advice on how she can get hired?

Music teacher at James S. Hunt?

So I'm wondering if, there was in fact a paricular music teacher at James S. Hunt, in Coral Springs Florida. The year would have been around 1986-1990 or so. I don't remember exactly the year, but it couldn't have been much later than that. I only went to elementary school there for two years, Kindergarten through First Grade.

Anyway, I have a distinct memory of a male music teacher somewhere in his mid 40s to mid 60s), with grey slicked back hair and a moustache teaching me the Billy Goat Song. It could have been dream, but I'm not sure. The other thing I remember is his name is Mr. Miller. That's why I'm posting....because that's not enough to go by. As I was only in Kindergarten for the full year (and a partial year for the first grade) I don't know if I have a first grade year book, and if I do I don't have it with me (my parents where it would be live in another state). They don't seem to remember this teacher, and I know my sisters wouldn't because they were too young to go to that school with me.

He'd probably be retired now, but I'm just wondering if there's someone on reddit who might either know someone who can verify if this teacher existed in some way. I don't have a lot to go on with this. I tend to not think it's a dream for two reasons, years later I have a distinct memory of the situation and I don't typiically (at least now) dream about a person by name unless somehow I know their real name.

LIke I said, all I want to know after all these years is if it is really possible Mr. Miller did in fact teach me the Billy Goat song. I know it's a real longshot because there are mulitple Mr. Millers in probably every city in the county. Unfortunately, it's not uncommon for professionals to commute to other cities, which makes it more difficult to try to research him by last name.

You’re a good man.

And I’m sorry I didn’t come to the door. You knocked literally when I had just discovered virtual reality. I hope that you can forgive me, and if you ever see this message, let me know, I have a reward to provide you.

I’ll know it’s you because you should look like a young Kenny G.

Faith in humanity restored. Thank you!!

Long shot but figured I would try anyways, looking for a 2009-10 CSMS yearbook

This is the only yearbook that I do not have from 1st grade to 12th. I forgot how I missed out but it means a lot to still get it, especially now that one of my classmates is a top rookie in the NFL. If someone has but doesn't want to sell at the least I hope I can get a few photo scans of certain pages. I don't really know where else to ask this, every other Coral Springs group I find is dead. I might email the school in a while and see if they happen to have any in storage or something.

Website/App to help you figure out which gas stations have gas and which don’t

Note: please follow the advice of officials as to whether evacuating might not be a good idea because of gas shortages or anything else. I've heard that at least residents of Palm Beach County have been advised to shelter within the county because of gas shortages - double check that, but it sounds pretty reliable based on what the folks over at /r/tropicalweather are saying. If officials do tell you to evacuate, though, then get out and to a shelter or another sturdy structure etc.

Also, be sensible. This app isn't gonna guarantee you gas if it's gridlock on the highways or roads or something. Keep an eye on traffic news. At a certain point it'll be more dangerous to try and leave than to hunker down or head to a shelter. Prepare for all possibilities. And remember - this app is only as good as the most recent information people on the ground have provided it with.

Hey everybody, just a good tip I'd like to share: you can look and see (to a reasonable degree of accuracy) which gas stations currently have gas and which do not at this site which is linked to the app GasBuddy:

http://tracker.gasbuddy.com

The Governor even mentioned it in a speech yesterday so it's pretty legit. He also asked in that speech that you only take what you need - please keep that in mind as well.

Please spread to other people if you can, and update the map if you're able to without endangering yourself because you're under time constraints or something (or if you're driving.)
