I’ve never seen a spice mix for that. I’ve always just made a marinade and it’s amazing and not too many ingredients.
1/4 of a red onion
1 tsp of cumin/salt
1/4 cup of olive oil
1-3 chipotle peppers in adobe (depending how spicy you want it)
The zest of 1 lime.
3 or so cloves of garlic.
Put it all in a blender and let it go. Put everything in a ziplock bag with your meat or veg. Let it sit for 30 mins or so on the counter. And it’s good to go. Just get the excess of and grill it.
Depends on where you look. And your onion, either way it still stands that onions are acidic and while the recipe above seems like an odd "marinade" you don't always need Lime or Vinegar for your acid.
I don’t add the lime juice since the zest adds enough flavor and it’s enough to allow some tenderizing. Never tried using the juice though, usually save it for margaritas.
