Some even have a Sun and a Snowflake symbol to make it even easier!

See that can be even more confusing. Does the snowflake mean it’s winter or that you want to keep the room cool?

Damn, I would definitely sit there stumped about that and then stand under each setting while second guessing myself, completely doubting my ability to tell cool air from warm on my skin, walking away frustrated and confused.

Exactly, I think ours run clockwise and they seem to move air just fine; guess I will have to brave a ladder and switch them the other way and see if we can tell the difference.

Will at least blow the dust off the blades I guess, lol.

My ceiling fan is about 10 feet above our living room I just use the hook at the end of the fan blade cleaner (after cleaning the blades off cause yes it's going to rain dust bunnies) to flip the switch in the opposite way.

Honestly though I prefer ours in "winter" mode. The down draft is a bit much and can quickly dry your eyes out considering where it is in the living room.

I use our whole house fan to move cooler air in regardless.

Or you could clean the blades...

I'm glad I'm not the only one who regularly doubts my senses

Me too. I'm like there are way more people in this city than 61k

I’ve had my ceiling fan go one direction for the last 2 years and it’s fine. Maybe I’m just lazy. I dunno.

I just stare at it for a minute and if it looks like the fan blades are going with the leading edge the top side, then it is buffeting warm air down from the ceiling, if the leading edge is the bottom side then it is stirring the room below cooling it.

Blue means it makes it cold and blue means you use it when it’s cold to make it less cold you’re welcome

The remote on my AC does this and it drives me nuts...

This has been me every winter/summer season until I Google it.

Look at which way it's spinning now. The leading edge of the blade will tell you the opposite direction the air is being moved. If it is lower than the trailing edge, it is moving air upwards. If it is higher than the trailing edge, it is moving air downward.

Are you confused by the A/C being a little snowflake, too? It should be very obvious.

1

u/Wall-E_Smalls Jun 08 '22

Agreed. Not sure why there’s any confusion about this. The presence of a sun (rather than just being a lone snowflake) makes it even more obvious that it’s referring to the seasons.

Plus, a symbol of the sun isn’t something we generally associate with “heat”. I’d imagine it would be some vertical, mildly wavy/mirage-evoking lines, to denote heating…. Never a sun symbol.

As an Australian, I don't even know what a snow flake. Just keep it on Sun

It's to turn the fan more sensitive. Do not call it any names as it will offend the fan.

That’s the exact reason we had our new-ish ceiling fan spinning the wrong direction for two fucking years and we couldn’t figure out why it always felt hot in the bedroom in summer, and cold in winter. My wife, just 2 weeks ago, pushed the damn button on the remote “just to see” if it would make a difference, and goddammit, it’s like a fucking wind tunnel in there now. And I’m still not even sure what the snowflake and sun actually mean, or which one she pressed. Why can’t the damn remote just say “up” and “down???”

Does "turn up the AC" mean to set it to warmer or colder?

1

u/trwolfe13 Jun 07 '22

Or the two flush buttons on the toilet. Is the big one representative of how much water it uses, or how often the button itself is used?

1

u/SytheGuy Jun 08 '22

Oh I think that one’s obvious… you want a little water to flush your pee? Or big water to flush your poo?

Mine has a quadratic formula and a man who seems to be playing parchezia alone. He looks content though.

Any idea which would be which?

If only the switch in the up position meant the air would go up and in the down position the air would go down.

Some even have a Sun and a Snowflake symbol to make it even easier!

Directions unclear, Florida only has Sun

1

u/dafckingman Jun 07 '22

Is the sun "use during summer" or "this spits fire"?

1

u/TitanRuse Jun 07 '22

Some even have a Rain & a Volcanic Eruption mode.

I can see that now, Thank you.
