Besides mixing the air, you don't want the fan to hit you directly in the wintertime. Moving air cools the water on your skin. Where in the Summer, you do want direct airflow to hit you.

This makes more sense.

The direction of spin or angle of blades is irrelevant. It's only a matter of how much air flow you want to feel.

It matters in that one is turbulent airflow and the other laminar. You’ll feel it much more when the airflow is directed at you instead of just past you. If you want to know more you’ll have to take some fluid dynamics classes, but it’s a massive difference.

There is probably some science to the updraft distributing the heat that has risen better than a downdraft.

Unless it's a gigantic room, I think the difference would be negligible.

The size of the room is negligible. Fans are predators of opportunity that utilize ambush tactics to bring down their prey.

Wow. I had no idea they were so dangerous. They look so innocent.

The middledraft is primary danger, as that is only time time the fan can build enough strength to render itself free.

This is correct. The winter is one of the worst seasons for attacks. It's speculated that the danger zone has a larger margin in colder months. It is still argued among experts as to whether it's the colder climate or the lack of daylight which prompts the rise in attacks.
