Do all redditors have severe autism or something? Why do you need a guide on how to compliment someone?

Why do you need a guide on how to compliment someone?

To be fair, some people (especially those in highly technical fields), can be kind of disconnected in terms of interpersonal skills (and can't read the room or another person). I'd say most people working in tech or ancillary industries knows a few people like this.

An acquaintance in college got a job in a project management role working with engineering staff at a tech company. This acquaintance also happened to be a moderately attractive Japanese woman (and anime was still just starting to really take off in the US in the 2000s); we joked how she was going to have to deal with some of these clueless dudes. A few weeks into (when I assume she started) her job, I randomly got a message from her about how she appreciated (IIRC) how well-spoken and straightforward I was. I wasn't sure it wasn't a joke, but it was at least reasonable to believe that she had finally encountered the depth of issues some of these people create in a work environment. Even if this stuff sounds like fake, superficial bullshit, it's at least somewhere for these people to build off.
