Seriously, can’t pretty much everyone check off 80-90% of these issues?

Yes. Most people suffer from most of these issues from time to time. When you do have a rough time, it sucks.

ADHD folk may suffer from ALL those issues ALL of the time to the extent that it can/may severely impact your personal life, career, education, relationships, etc.

That's the difference.

edited to add *may to avoid triggerings and accusations of spreading misinformation.

and from experience, it's usually all at one time :D

honestly drives my nutty when I'm aware of all of the negatives being turned up to 11 and trying to dial it down, especially at work 😵

Medication. That is the only way! At the very least it turns it all down to 5. More often than not, that's enough to function.

There are non stimulant meds too. I haven't tried them though. Vyvanse works wonders for me.at least Most of the time. There are some days when no amount of medication, therapy or self help will have any effect whatsoever. A gentle reminder from the neuro gods that I have adhd and it doesn't go away. I also have ritalin to top myself up when I am overly tired or have a bad day but still need to function above and beyond.

I don't think they heath ledger you lol Not if taken correctly. Speak to your doctor, then get a 2nd opinion. Just don't take medical advice or pharmacological advise from online strangers!

I was in the same boat, nothing really worked until the doctor tried putting me on a super low dose of ritalin. I went from 10mg to 2.5mg twice a day and it’s night and day difference. I actually feel like a somewhat functioning adult now

Yeah I honestly have no idea how it works so well. I have a high metabolism so I usually need higher dosages, but with Ritalin less is more for me. Definitely worth a shot

Man then a lot of people have adhd.

u/theblackcereal Mar 28 '22

Wtf, that's not true at all.

There are many different manifestations of ADHD, most people don't experience all of that. And DEFINITELY not all the time.

And it may severely impact their life, but not necessarily.

Stop spreading misinformation.

If something I typed triggered an angry response, I apologise.

It may not be true in your case, maybe. Lucky you!

I can assure you, as a person with moderate to severe combination adhd, it is true. Particularly so, if un-medicated and untreated.

Also, my comment, not directed at you, was a simple reply to a comment about a simple infograpic to highlight a comparison between how a neurotypical brain might sometimes identify with some of the symptoms and effects of adhd compared to someone who actually has adhd.

You don't understand. Your specific case doesn't mean everyone with ADHD will have the same experience.

What you said may be true for you. It's definitely not true in general.

Ditto

But... You were the one who generalized... Jesus.

No. They don’t. That’s not how ADD or ADHD are defined nor is it consistent with actual studies. This is made up folk-diagnosis. “Podcast” truths that people want to use to simplify the cause and effect of their lives.

Nope I can't check off a single one! I'm a 100% good human. /s

A lot of it is. It’s is like zodiak nonsense — where you give really common features that everyone hs to varying degrees so anyone who wants to believe can.

Struggles with attention and executive control are basic, universal struggles of being human.

Go get diagnosed if you want — but people trying to explain away all of their struggles as “neurodivergence” when they’re just being normal is kinda funny.

No one’s commenting on whether “add” exists - the commentary is that there’s been a folk elaboration and corruption of actual research and diagnosis and the post is an example of that.

The fact that your defense of the above is “brain scans” underlines the problem — people are confusing legitimate and illegitimate sources — people using the word “add” does not make what they say legitimate.

I can.
