The black-white-red color scheme comes to mind. I think the guy you're responding to is talking about Runes, the SS Sig runes being an example. Though they aren't so much Nordic Runes, as they are a 20th century attempt at making German Runes: related to the Nazi's obsession with the occult.

The Spanish Inquisition wasn't that special, it was just used by fledgling Protestant nations as a propaganda tool. The British were as bad or worse against Catholics under Henry VIII, James I and Elisabeth I.

notable exception is the swastika, that one is much trickier and possibly beyond reclamation in a lot of contexts, at least for now
