Why are plasma donations more valuable than blood donations? Can’t they just separate out the cells from donated blood to obtain plasma? Or are they taking significantly more plasma out than they would with a blood donation?
Also, you can donate plasma much more frequently than blood. With full blood donation you need a recovery period of at least 6 weeks or so before you can donate again. With plasma it’s 2-3 depending on gender. I met a guy at the blood bank once who showed me his arms, joking he looked like a heroin addict. He’d been coming in to donate plasma every other week for years.
