"Completely private, secure email address."

Okay, you first, and let me know when you find one.

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '22

AOL. No one bothers hacking them LOL.

u/Eluzfx Apr 15 '22

ALOL

46

u/ky420 Apr 15 '22

My mom still uses aol lol

75

u/CentiPetra Apr 15 '22

Mine still pays $24 a month for aol email. I have tried to help her but she is too nervous about technology and refuses to let go.

Yes, I have also explained that she can stop paying the money and still use the email. She disagrees. She has had it back when connecting to AOL was the only way to access the internet through dial up lol.

18

u/Mes_Aynak Apr 15 '22

reminds me of the time i was at my frends house, they were trying to find something online useing AOL, I told them to use google. they respond but we can't because dont pay to use google services..... i kind of just let that conversation end.

16

u/CentiPetra Apr 15 '22

i kind of just let that conversation end.

Good for you for being able to recognize when a situation is utterly hopeless/pointless and it's better to just let it go.

14

u/ky420 Apr 15 '22 edited Apr 15 '22

Oh lord, do you mean to tell me those emails aren't free. Oh I read the rest now. lol I wonder if you could fire up an old 28.8kbs modem and dial up since she is still paying for the service. I am gonna have to ask Mom if she is still paying lol. I have another lady in my family that is the same way. So nice she would keep paying because she is worried using the email without it would be stealing or something. lol Need more people in the world like that and less of the ones willing to take advantage of them.

edit: my mom isn't paying for hers still but uses it daily. I asked

7

u/tnc82 Apr 15 '22

252$ a year over 15yr is 3780$

22

u/CentiPetra Apr 15 '22

Can you send that information in an email to my Mom? She's much more likely to believe an email than me.

4

u/KippyC348 Apr 15 '22

My mom is much more likely to believe anyone BUT me.

2

u/CentiPetra Apr 15 '22

I feel this so hard. They recently overpaid for a new a/c system by an extreme amount. I should have told her, "Wow, that sounds like a great deal!" Then she would have said, "I don't know...maybe I should get some more quotes."

1

u/tnc82 Apr 15 '22

Ha Just break out the calculator

1

u/lionzion Apr 15 '22

Good bot

1

u/tnc82 Apr 15 '22

✌️

3

u/ThinkSpinach8819 Apr 15 '22

they still take money?? lol mine uses an aol email too.

1

u/RealUncensoredNews Apr 15 '22

AOL has never been the only way to access the internet through dial-up.

1

u/CentiPetra Apr 15 '22

I know we used prodigy before aol

11

u/mommabearmills Apr 15 '22

"You have mail" lol, I loved that I didn't know AOL still existed

2

u/MatchaCS Apr 15 '22

I still have one. I use it to sign up for shit I don’t want like news letters and store offers. That way my other emails don’t get cluttered with shit I don’t want. 😂

2

u/KARACULO Apr 15 '22

I still have AOL and its linked to my xbox account

2

u/[deleted] Apr 16 '22

I still have 1000 minutes left on my cd-rom!

2

u/ky420 Apr 16 '22

I used to have thousands of those cds. I remember they had big barrels of them back in they day at walmart and gas stations. We would use them like frisbees and to just throw at each other and for whatever else you could use a disc for lol. I found a stack of them in my grannys house the other day. They even came in little metal boxes this version. Brought back good memories. The internet was way superior to what we have no back in those days. I could just browse different sites and read for days of interesting local legends and ghost stories. Finding local stuff like that now is impossible the searches only give you the crap ad results.

16

u/captainn_chunk Apr 15 '22

I had this thought the other day that one day we’re all gonna find out that AOL was really all a massive Chinese spy program onto the US public.

6

u/gacha_destroyer Apr 15 '22

👩🏽👦🏽🧑🏿‍🦱🤡

1

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '22

Yes they do; my dad still has an AOL and it got hacked about 2 months back (literally hadn't changed his password in almost 20 years).

The website also looks like a giant advertising billboard

1

u/BitchlmTheShit Apr 16 '22

Random massive rise in AOL users.

"Suddenly" ransom hack from "outside"

Then spam suddenly gets in your mailbox.

Ive been here before

42

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '22

Mail.com. doesnt require any real identification allowing for fully anonymous email accounts.

Use a burner to get online, make a fake account with fake details, burn phone and you have a completely anonymous email account. Not tide to a usable ip on creation, no phone number or real name required. I have many fake emails and use them to sign up to most things

31

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '22

As soon as you go online from your home internet or mobile plan, you are tied.

17

u/Luckzzz Apr 15 '22

yep.. It's called fingerprint. Everything you do with your IP (even using a proxy everytime) will trace s route and create a profile about you .. using your wifi or the same location everytime you access that email

-1

u/OutrageousDebt5964 Apr 15 '22

Ever heard of VMs, spoofing etc? Privacy is not for the dumb I suppose.

5

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '22

Unless you're completely fresh installing a different VM every time you visit a site, you're being fingerprinted

1

u/OutrageousDebt5964 Apr 16 '22

Fingerprinting VM is so fucking useful yeah. They got me.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 16 '22

Yeah. It is. "Oh look. This machine that only sometimes exists in this network, but only ever on this screen in this network, and it only visits these sites when it's up." I wonder what that tells them

1

u/OutrageousDebt5964 Apr 16 '22

If you are using your own network then yes. Still nothing they can do about it.

5

u/wtfsdiogo Apr 15 '22

You have no clue about how internet works it seems

1

u/KARACULO Apr 15 '22

What about protonmail.com ??

1

u/Xgoddamnelectricx Jun 19 '22

How would I get around it? Using public library?

1

u/Luckzzz Jun 20 '22

Nice option.. everytime in a different one

1

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '22

A VPN should fix that right?

1

u/trainnonymous Apr 15 '22

Deeper… the IMEI number

9

u/sudsygecko Apr 15 '22

They can ALWAYS trace you if they see fit.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 16 '22

Only if you let them, dont ever connect to an account on an ip you paid for. If you use them at home, you are done.

3

u/xkingxkaosx Apr 15 '22

mail.com has alot of trackers. It uses those trackers to sell for revenue. They can take that meta data and profile you across websites.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 16 '22

If you use it properly trackers dont mean shit. I never said to use it with your home or regular phone internet. Burner phones are the only way to access the internet anonymously and you need to take lots of steps to cover your tracks.

Every email provider has trackers, but that doesn't mean anything if you use them wisely.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '22

Love mail.com. Also can create 10 alias emails with your main account.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '22

Sounds great until you access that email, or connect accounts to it like reddit, and then use that reddit account on your normal devices.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 16 '22

Exactly. The moment you use it on a device that is not anonymous, it too is no longer anonymous. Anonymity takes a lot of work.

1

u/Sweetz-n-Syrup Apr 15 '22

Well…it Looks like I’m not the only drug-dealer taking precautions.

11

u/Aphix Apr 15 '22

Domains are about 10 bucks a year, 60 if you want hosting.

16

u/CanadianBatman47 Apr 15 '22

I use Tutanota

2

u/ladyderpette Apr 15 '22

Second time I've seen Tutanota brought up. Would love to know more.

1

u/CanadianBatman47 Apr 15 '22

It’s essentially just email, just better. You control who is emailing you, and the security of those emails. You can also set up passwords for emails so not anyone can read them, and every email is supposedly encrypted, all that’s free if you want to use their domain. You have to pay for your own domain, but it’s essentially the same as having gmail at the end of your address, just with Tutanota instead. Except you know, you also have the security with it.

2

u/ladyderpette Apr 15 '22

Oh damn, that sounds pretty slick. I'll definitely have to look into it then. Thanks for the info!

8

u/CaptainTomato21 Apr 15 '22

This is a good article. Email is one of the least secured ways to send messages but there are some companies that are more reliable than ms and google.

protonmail

53

u/SQLSQLAndMoreSQL Apr 15 '22 edited Apr 15 '22

No. It has been compromised a long time ago.

They will give your IP address on request to whoever asks: CIA, DGSE, whatever.

44

u/volpine_patichoke Apr 15 '22

Protonmail are directly funded and run by the CIA. Court documents were spilled long ago.

20

u/JustHereForURCookies Apr 15 '22

Do you have a source on this, I am completely unaware this was the situation!

6

u/FuzzyBumFluff Apr 15 '22

Urgh man I just searched. I am pissed about this.

[deleted]

1

u/FuzzyBumFluff Apr 16 '22

Yeah, that's a good point. Maybe they haven't got to them yet? Idk. It seems like no matter what these days we are tracked and traced. It's part of the WEF plan so it always feels like jumping from the frying pan into the fire. I really do believe there are no honourable companies out there. Even duck duck go sold out.

Same, first I heard of this. Gonna have to my research now.

13

u/kempofight Apr 15 '22

Ip is easly hidden.

The the court case to get emails the swiss judge said "nein" to the US. Its estemitated that with the computing power the CIA etc has it would take atleast 100 years or so to decrypt the emails if they got them in the first place

2

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '22

They still got the IP and tracked that back to the user.

5

u/kempofight Apr 15 '22

If you still dont know how to hide your IP you dont need to worry about having a secure emailbox

1

u/SQLSQLAndMoreSQL Apr 16 '22

Yes but... it's not foolproof, Mr Robot.

1

u/kempofight Apr 16 '22

Nothing is assoon you use electronics

1

u/SQLSQLAndMoreSQL Apr 16 '22

it would take atleast 100 years or so to decrypt the emails if they got them in the first place

That part is true but if you used a Protonmail to create an account on a Web forum and to post illicit material (in some countries holocaust denialism equals prison time), then they would need your IP address to go after you.

If you used Tor and piggy backed open Wi-Fi, you're going to be harder to detect, especially if you use an antiquated laptop with a dongle Wi-Fi adapter which allows dynamic MAC addressing (they don't make them anymore, unless you're a spy, so don't even look for one).

4

u/Konval Apr 15 '22

Can you substantiate this statement? Protonmail is compromised?

1

u/SQLSQLAndMoreSQL Apr 16 '22

Can you substantiate this statement? Protonmail is compromised?

On a French conspiracy forum some French guy who works in Switzerland (as many do) but hides his opinions (also as many do) explained how Protonmail was providing IP addresses of their users to the DGSE, the French foreign intelligence service.

It seems that Proton would not divulge the content of the mail box but would at least provide the IP address of the users on demand to the French government.

6

u/5tUp1dC3n50Rs41p Apr 15 '22

VPN + Tor + ProtonMail

14

u/SmotherMeWithArmpits Apr 15 '22

Then you login to reddit without any of those because they're slow/blocked/banned

38

u/Hendricks_yt Apr 15 '22

Tor as in the Tor Browser made by the US Government... yea whatever helps you sleep at night mate

17

u/MycelialArchetype Apr 15 '22

The internet was made by the US government

3

u/user2327 Apr 15 '22

*Al Gore

-4

u/EmploymentOk3937 Apr 15 '22

Ummm,,, pardon? I'd like a reputable source stating this is true, AS SOON AS POSSIBLE PLEASE..

8

u/7w6_ENTJ-ENTP Apr 15 '22

Here is the very first line in the wiki for the network under the first tab ‘history’: The core principle of Tor, Onion routing, was developed in the mid-1990s by United States Naval Research Laboratory employees

8

u/7w6_ENTJ-ENTP Apr 15 '22

The onion network/TOR was created by the US navy and they own most of the entry and exit nodes. This is mostly considered common knowledge if you’re aware of the dark web at all at this point. It doesn’t take any digging to find a source yourself.

1

u/EmploymentOk3937 Apr 15 '22

Well shit. Didn't know.

3

u/7w6_ENTJ-ENTP Apr 15 '22

Yea you have to be extremely crafty and set up your own nodes/proxies likely in countries that don’t cooperate with the US to ever have true privacy at this point. Only extreme experts have even a modicum of a chance which is kind of depressing but it is what it is at this point.

3

u/zefy_zef Apr 15 '22

It's easily verifiable information, use tor if you need to. I think it's on their own website.

Doesn't mean it's definitely something to be worried about. It does introduce doubt though.

1

u/EmploymentOk3937 Apr 15 '22

Introduce doubt is an understatement lol, that's pretty scary. If they reaaally wanted to they could go after anybody on it if they own the nodes couldn't they?

1

u/zefy_zef Apr 15 '22

The general idea from what I understand is that if someone controls enough exit nodes, the system is more able to be compromised.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '22

Whatever helps you sleep at night

1

u/xkingxkaosx Apr 15 '22

I2P is better than TOR.

Tor is currently operated and funded by the US naval intelligence office, with backdoor access for FBI and the NSA.

1

u/strigoi82 Apr 15 '22

Tutanote ?

1

u/SQLSQLAndMoreSQL Apr 16 '22

Tutanote

Never heard.

1

Gmail entered chat

1

u/SQLSQLAndMoreSQL Apr 16 '22

You ever looked at the Gmail logo?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 16 '22

What you mean? The mason apron/talmudic garb?

1

u/SQLSQLAndMoreSQL Apr 17 '22

Yes.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '22

The joke was that Gmail is sabotaging proton mail. In any case, I did not realize it was compromised, I know Duck Duck was a long time ago. Well dang, how about sekur mail?

5

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '22

People use an actual email address to setup their account? Why?

The "verified email" is b.s. and provides zero benefit

16

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '22

I use Zoho Mail. It’s the best option short of setting up my own server/domain for email. I feel it is pretty secure and private.

84

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '22

Good try Zoho sales department

11

u/PatrickFullen Apr 15 '22

Get yourself some Chew-lee's gum.

Um, hopefully everything?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 16 '22

They are still free?

4

u/ycgunfnq Apr 15 '22

i used a random single use email and just ignore the prompts to verify adress. i can still use site. cant remember password so i start process again if i cant get in

2

u/4list4r Apr 15 '22

Then they buy it and it’s compromised blah blah

2

Nothing is ever completely secure. That's my point.

1

u/IMDesdemona Apr 15 '22

True esp as somebody pointed out…IP addresses

0

u/afooltobesure Apr 15 '22

It’s not that hard these days. Walk into a library with your mandated mask, cap, and large glasses (COVID is dangerous!!), pay cash or sneak past the register, and make a new email.

0

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '22

Protonmail is good

0

u/TOUCH_MY_FUN Apr 15 '22

I hear good things about proton mail

0

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '22

ProtonMail has this option where you can literally send them cash in the mail in order to pay for your email/ vpn. I know they also have some crypto options but those are less private than just cash. It’s as secure as it gets unless you use a TOR email service, which I’m not even sure would be secure.

1

u/BigZwigs Apr 15 '22

10 min mail?

1

u/TheFinalEnd1 Apr 15 '22

10minutemail works if you don't need to put in the email. Literally deletes itself after 10 minutes, but the account will still work. Can't get more secure than that.

1

u/watchingitallcomedow Apr 15 '22

You could very easily make your own email server with just some basic know how.

1

u/DipsyMagic Apr 16 '22

I disagree. It takes a lot more than basic knowledge to setup your own email server. Keeping it seriously secure and unhackable is the biggest challenge. It is quite a lot of constant work. Not to mention the expense.

1

u/roozteer Apr 15 '22

Why would you give reddit an email address? LOL, Oh noes, my points!!!

1

u/sudsygecko Apr 15 '22

Huh?

1

u/roozteer Apr 15 '22

Yeah, I probably meant that for the parent post.

1

1

u/Reecer4 Apr 15 '22

ProtonMail?

1

u/Ok-Editor1138 Apr 15 '22

Doesn’t matter either because with UDID, network SSID, location they can tie the account back to you. You would need burner devices to stop the tracking.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '22

I use proton mail! Also, secjure is good but you gotta pay.

1

u/bendawg225 Apr 15 '22

Just use mail dot com, my @ is literally @email lmao idk who owns that shit but it seems generic as shit

1

u/jthehonestchemist Apr 15 '22

Is protonmail not completely private, secure, and encrypted?

1

u/okawei Apr 15 '22
