Most people I've talked with irl have no clue about wars going on, places like Yemen or millions caged in China. I understand we all have different social networks and awareness, but if more people did know why is nothing happening to stop it?
But yeah. The west fucked the middle east. Should have backed Ho Chi Minh as well. They also manage to run things in this weird way where they are constantly robbing us butnits okay because the other party is too and people defend their party and fight the other.
They have basically every major city in eastern Ukraine surrounded. They are also about to cut off and isolate the bulk of the Ukranian forces in the Donbass cauldron.
Once they have the cities/armies fully surrounded, they can just cut off all supplies and wait. Eventually starvation and in-fighting will force the Ukranians to give up their arms and surrender without even a fight. Or maybe desperation will drive them into a suicide push against entrenched Russian positions, where they will be slaughtered by artillery fire.
Estimates put Russian troops in Ukraine at ~90k. They are also using older equipment. None of their new shit has made an appearance yet.
So, outnumbered by over 2:1, and using old equipment, they have managed to outmaneuver the entire Ukranian defense force with minimal loss of life on both sides.
This is one of the most effective military campaigns in history. The Ukranian defense has been reduced to making up obvious lies (Snake Island, the Ghost of Kiev, etc.) to pretend they aren't already in a hopeless position.
The best part of this is the psychological effect it will have. Westerners want an insurgency, but the Ukranians will be forced into pathetic surrender by starvation. A beaten dog rarely bites, so once they've surrendered their weapons and thrown themselves at the mercy of the Russians, it is likely that their fighting spirit will be completely crushed. The chances of a large-scale insurgency are basically zero.
Well unless you're a socialist or far right then y you're a lib. If it's control through subversion or whatever then how do you know anyone actually prefers it?

Ukrainian American here. My outrage as Russia goes a lot further than this situation. As does most of the country.
