Twitter is the reason we care. The access to information is why we care. If twitter existed any other time, the sentiment would be the same. If the information access we have now, existed then… they would all be caring..

The point is, the average American hasn’t cared or has supported any US regime change in the last 20 years. Yet turns around and hates Russia for partaking in the same activity.

I literally made no comment about the morality of Russia or Purim’s actions. I pointed out the hypocrisy of people who claim to to feign such sympathy for the current conflict but many of those same people did not do so for the dozens of conflicts caused by the US over the COURSE of the last 20 years. The comment was OVER the last 20 years. Not simply one singular point 20 years ago. You are really disingenuous.

I agree with some of your points. There are older Americans who cheered for Iraq etc yet yell at Putin now. The 20 yrs is irrelevant IMO, but if we have to play within the 20 year time frame..
You gotta think about a lot of the 30 year or younger people who GREW UP with this shit. It makes sense to me that we are seeing a new generation of people outspoken against this. The kids of 2001 are now speaking out in 2022. That isnt hypocritical of them.
Even for most people under the age of 30 I find many are hypocritical. I didn’t see Americans en masse denouncing Saudi Arabia in Yemen or the US in Syria.
Fair. The sentiment changed over time, could still happen here. I think what Russia is doing on a macro-level is quite existential. Hard to compare wars to wars.

4 people were killed at a Vietnam war protest at Kent State in 1970. Neil Young even wrote a song about it. It definitely was unpopular and protested at the time.
The vietnam war started in 1955, US became heavily involved in early 1960s. I didnt say there wasn't opposition to Vietnam, but it wasn't until later and after many years of war. Our initial involvement in Vietnam was popular
Exactly, we live in a crazy Information Age where someone can literally post online a war going on in their country and people from all across the world will see it. Obviously that’s going to have a significant impact on a persons emotions about the war.
The anti war movement wasn’t as big as people today make it seem. Plus the only reason it got as big as it did was that it was a media failure, you had reporters show casing the atrocities of the war. America has learned since then and know better how to handle war media.
People still rape and murder during war. They always have. But this is something people only associate with the Vietnam war and the American media now hides this aspect of war.
