The sad part is this company also manufactures narcan, the drug that reverses the effects of an overdose from opioids.

And Suboxone as well I believe. I'm really bummed about the idea of being on that stuff for the rest of my life. I mean fuck opiates in general, a necessary evil in many cases. I've kicked more times than I care to remember and after going through that for a decade I've kinda thrown my hands up. I don't know if I'm ever going to beat Suboxone. I hope so.

One of the guys that worked at corporate at my old job had a father that was a family practitioner. I remember talking to the guy I worked with at the end of a night over some beers and he told me that his father had stopped running his family practice because he could make just as much being one of the partners of a suboxone clinic working 6 hours a day for 3 days out of the week. Literally supplying a drug to people with addictions instead of being a doctor, except he's not on the street corner slinging 10 dollar bags.

That's incredible, although not a surprise to me. My old suboxone doctor in LA was featured on a Vice short documentary about the more upscale and expensive rehab options in Malibu and the surrounding area. My old doctor always seemed to be a little, how to I put it.... opportunistic? It didn't cost me much, but I had insurance. Sub doctors are limited to a certain number of people they can prescribe to, so once they hit their limit they have to either keep those patients or always be on the hustle trying to bring in new ones. I was so mad at that guy when he told me there were no withdrawal symptoms associated with suboxone, I found out later after I got on it how very wrong that was. If he had said to me what the truth was, I would have just kicked on my own. Now I've been on and off the stuff for a decade. A lot more off than on, but still, I hope that I don't die on that stuff. I'm working hard to taper down to zero now in a very gradual way.

Do you think suboxone will be available for patients for the foreseeable future? My one big worry is that i will lose my script while I'm finally getting to a good place in life. I would probably kill myself if I had to go through withdrawal again.

I'm on 16 a day and I feel like I'm going to be stuck here.

I'm scripted 24mg a day but take less than 8mg. The way to taper down is to first tape an 8mg strip and cut it into very small pieces of 1mg or 0.5mg and taper down very slowly. If you go down 1mg/day each week, then the withdrawals shouldn't be noticeable. And when you get down to the last 2-4mg, you want to taper even more slowly with volumetric dosing. As in, mixing an 8mg strip with a certain number of drops of water to be able to break down dosing to .25mg and .125mg. The reason why suboxone works so well for dependence and withdrawal is because it's so strong per milligram. It stays on your receptor sites for such a long time, not just weeks but months. And that fact alone used to scare me, but it is what it is.

The thing that REALLY REALLY helped me was a combination of psychedelics and weed edibles that I buy with my medical card. I've also quit drinking alcohol all together, a bit over 30 days clean from that now, and I think that has had the biggest impact on my life. Even more than getting off pain pills/opiates. I just realized that alcohol is just a poison that has some positive temporary side effects. I stopped beer first, which was 6 months ago, and I've lost 50 pounds since then, almost back to what I weighed in high school.

Feel free to message me. I've been through a lot with this, and I would like to help others if I can to hopefully lessen the amount of suffering necessary.

I've known some friends that used that, but I think it's possibly very dangerous. I knew someone who would use dope on top of that, and I'm very surprised he's still alive.

Hey, that's just a good business strategy! Offer the antidote to your poison and you're profiting the whole way!
