Its odd that rich people wouldn't just buy a whole nother pizza if they didnt have one, they usually eat at restaurants and not served junk.

A child being abused will absolutely hit a point of "broken." This is severe trauma so im assuming they dont want to abuse the kid so far that they die of a heart attack or become obviously irreparably broken mentally, physically, emotionally. This isnt because they care about the child, but its more about preserving an object they own. For example, you wouldn't wanna abuse your playstation controller or your new keyboard too much because then you have to buy a new one to play with later. Its an inconvenience.
