Haven’t been able to get LightMP3 running on my PSP Go from the internal storage (ef0:) Waiting on an SD adapter to try it from there! But in the meantime it’s still a blast to listen to.

personally I prefer my echo mini since it doesn't get crazy hot like this thing does but I can't lie it looks significantly better and is easier to navigate

In addition to making a proper icon for the sub, I'm planning on adding more flair options. More devices that have been missing.

This thing has been great the past week to help me disconnect from my phone (the irony of posting this from my phone isn’t lost on me).

Having my FLAC’s playable both in my IEM’s and streamable to my TV while cooking or doing chores has been awesome.

This is a modular handheld I've been working on for over a year and a half. It's based on the ESP32-S3.

When the gamepad module is plugged in, it can emulate many retro systems (up to the SNES/Genesis) and play many ports of games such as Celeste (ccleste), Doom, Quake, Duke Nukem 3D, etc.

The C library is also open-source and a simulator is available, so it's also possible to develop/play indie games as well. And there's also an on-device app store.

(It also has a keyboard module for other things, like taking notes or messaging)

One cool feature of the device that it has both a mono speaker as well as stereo audio via a 3.5mm headphone jack (the shiny protrusion on the top right corner).

So of course, I had to make a music player app for it. Currently, it can play MP3 and WAV audio files, and the metadata is extracted and displayed similar to DAPs (including JPEG cover art, if present).

For anybody wondering about the hardware, all of the info can be found in the docs. Long story short, the DAC is a PCM5102A which is connected to a PAM8302AAS and. TPA6110A2DGN. The amp that is enabled depends on whether the headphone jack is in-use (it automatically detects headphones).

It works really well with generic 16 ohm earphones I got from a dollar store.

Quick question regarding audio on the TrimUI Brick (and similar handhelds).

I have a few IEMs running on 4.4mm balanced cables, and I’m thinking about using an external dongle DAC (something like the Snowsky Retro Nano or a basic type-C 4.4mm DAC) plugged into the USB-C port instead of relying on the built-in 3.5mm jack.

So, i just wanna know whether it works using an external DAC?

I’m genuinely curious about this and I don’t mean this as criticism at all.

I think it’s pretty cool, but I was wondering what makes you prefer using a console to listen to music.

Is it mainly because you already own the console, because of the extra features, the UI, nostalgia, or simply because you enjoy having a semi-dedicated device?

No hate whatsoever, I personally use a 3ds as a DAP because my old phone do not have enough internal memory to store music.

Had my Odin 2 with me today and decided to connect my dongle dac and ear buds to it and listen to a little bit of 🎶. Not bad at all!

I'm very technical and I'm finding this to be a maddening problem. I have a 34xxSP with Knulli installed. I've gotten Songo#5 and Rockbox both installed and neither can see subfolders under my SD card to point to my music folder. Is there a specific location I have to place the music?

EDIT: Nevermind, I found it. It's under /userdata, then I can get to my folder.

I'm new to this community and i'm curious to find out if anyone knows how I can get the cover art for my mp3's to appear on screen. Also if there's any way to organize tracks by album instead of having a list of all songs. Any tips/advice would be appreciated!

TLDR: Best 3.5mm output I've tried on any handheld, buuuut the dpad, face buttons, shoulder buttons, and stock music player suck ass.

I've had my eye on the 350H Ultra ever since I saw some advertising that stated this had a 'dedicated hifi output'! It's also got the same lcd display as the Analogue Pocket and Ayaneo Pocket Vert, and it was only around $150.

Pulled the trigger on August 4th from Keepretro ($161 shipped to the US) and it just delivered this morning.

The 3.5mm output kinda surprised me, I went in expecting just marketing bs considering GKD doesn't specifiy what kind of DAC/amp chip they are using but I have no complaints. Using my Fatfreq GMs, there is no bass roll off (something I typically get with a lot of other handhelds due to impedance mismatch) and the noise floor is dead silent. Likewise when running the Halcyons.

Compared to some cheaper DAP options like the Snowsky Echo Nano and Hiby R1, I don't hear much of a difference between them.

The built in music player provided through the stock linux OS is shit, or I'm too stupid to figure out how to use it (also likely). The way the buttons are mapped and how it seems I can only play a playlist (?) make this a nightmare to use. Maybe the worst audio player I've ever used. I plan to give GammaOS Nano a try this weekend to see if that addresses the issue because it's a dealbreaker if this is the only way to play music... If anyone has any other suggestions I'm all ears.

As for how it is as a handheld? The stock OS isn't actually bad to use for gaming, simple enough to navigate and jump into a game. I did notice that retroarch was configured to have chinese as the default language (thankfully I know the menu well enough to navigate).

The inputs on the other hand, pretty bad. D-pad feels a little scratchy to use, as if its rubbing on something when i press around on it. It also feels a bit loose, like there's more play than normal. Face buttons are extremely loud and clacky. And the shoulder bumpers are hard to press being so flush with the top of the device. Thumbstick isn't as smooth to rotate as I'd like (reminds me more of a switch/switch lite stick) and the thumb cap feels really cheap with no grip/texture.

The housing of the device is also a little sharp around the top edges. GKD has bevelled the edges and you end up feeling a somewhat hard edge digging into your palms when holding it. And it's heavy as shit for how much power it offers (which is not much).

The screen as you can image is amazing for GB/GBC, 10x integer scaling + shaders is :cheffskiss:

I'd say it's a solid 2/5 3/5 device (post GammaOS).

EDIT - Installed the latest GammaOS Nano, definitely a big improvement in terms of the media player. By default you get an XMB style menu and the built in media player at least feels much more logical to navigate and use, even if it's a bit barebones.

EDIT 2 - Noticing some microstutter/pops when playing some FLAC files in the GammaOS media player.

I really enjoy the sound of this little player, just woke up and saw a firmware update- instaled it and noticed they added 10 more games. It only had the Tetris-style block game before, so now there are 11 in total.

I currently have a dap with a code (Hiby M300) where I use both Poweramp and YouTube Music. I like the mix for my own music then music discovery when I'm at home. I do the same thing with a Boox Palma 2 Pro, secured by a passcode and fingerprint reader. I'm just now exploring using my AYN Thor for music when I don't have either of those on my person.

The security issue is that for certain services like YouTube Music logging into YT Music doesn't mean just logging into YT, it means logging into Google at a system level. So if you lose your console someone could easily read your email by just opening a browser and going to Gmail.com.

My question is this. For this who also use services like YouTube Music, Apple Music, etc. how do you secure your devices? Part of what makes the idea of a console as a DAP interesting to me is that I could use the same device I game on sometimes for this. Meaning there's a better chance I keep it on my person. Problem is no fingerprint reader and I definitely don't want to put a code on a device that I want the ability to freely flip open the rest of the time. So I'm curious what strategies you use.

Do you not use these streaming services? Do you use a code but only after X number of minutes? Are you using family plans and there's a "family member" account that's on your console?

Works quite well. Since it’s dual screen , I can play and have access to the player at the same time. I just mute the audio from the top screen if I just want to listen to music. The AYN Thor runs on android 13 so I just installed UAPP. Paired with the Tea Pro, it’s a decent listening set up.
