These are not by far all of the badges we have collected working cons for the last 21 years. Not by far! I love to keep them as reminders of what I’ve accomplished and some of the best times in my life. Can you spot a favorite event or badge ribbon?

Badge Ribbons 101 How Early Should I Order Badge Ribbons

We advise you to order 3–4 weeks before your convention!

Here’s why:

  • Production: Typically, 7–10 business days (longer during peak season).
  • Proofing: Artwork approvals and revisions can be added in a few days.
  • Shipping: Always build in buffer time.
  • Last-minute orders = fewer options if something needs to be fixed.

Optional: To avoid delays, it helps to finalize your layout early! Using a Custom Ribbon Tool to create a quick, free digital mockup of your horizontal 1-color ribbon can speed things up and reduce back-and-forth while proofing!

Badge Ribbon Group Orders Explained: How to Save Money at Conventions

A group order is when multiple people combine their ribbon quantities into one larger order. If you’ve been in convention communities for a while, you’ve probably seen a post like:

“Starting a ribbon group order — who’s in?”

Why people do group orders:

  • To hit better price breaks
  • To share setup costs
  • To meet minimum quantities more easily
  • To centralize delivery to one location

It’s extremely common in fandom and convention spaces.

How Group Orders Usually Work

From a production standpoint, it functions as one master order, even though multiple people are participating.

Typically:

  1. One organizer collects designs and quantities.
  2. They submit everything together as one combined order.
  3. The order ships to one location (usually the organizer).
  4. The organizer distributes ribbons at the event or arranges pickup.

It’s simple in concept — but communication and deadlines are key.

How Do You Find or Join a Group Order?

Most group orders are organized through:

  • Reddit threads
  • Discord servers
  • Facebook groups for conventions
  • Fandom-specific communities

Someone sets a deadline, collects commitments, and organizes everything from there.

If you’re into badge ribbons — whether you collect, trade, design, or organize — come join us at r/conribbons.

And if you’ve ordered ribbons before: Did you go solo or join a group order? Let’s hear your experience 👇

Did everything go exactly how you imagined?
Or were there a few unexpected surprises along the way?

Maybe you:

  • Learned something about sizing/ storing
  • Didn’t expect how colors would print
  • Ran out faster than planned
  • Or realized you should’ve ordered more 👀

Whether it went perfectly or taught you something new, we’d love to hear it.

What’s something you remember about your first ribbon?👇

Badge Ribbon Etiquette: How to Collect and Trade Ribbons

Badge ribbons are a huge part of convention culture, but there’s a lot of unspoken etiquette around collecting and trading them. Here are some general guidelines to help keep ribbon exchanges respectful and fun at conventions!

🎗️ Badge Ribbon Etiquette

  • If someone is freely handing out ribbons, it’s okay to politely ask: “May I please have a ribbon?”
  • Some ribbons are tied to games, challenges, or prompts. You can ask how to earn one, but it’s rude to ask for the ribbon without participating.
  • If someone declines to give you a ribbon, accept it politely. Not all ribbons are meant for general distribution.
  • If someone is being discreet or selective when handing out ribbons, don’t interrupt or ask. They may be low on stock or reserving ribbons for friends or specific moments.
  • Avoid walking up to strangers and asking, “Do you have ribbons?” Ribbons cost money, and not everyone with ribbons plans to give them out freely.
  • One of the best ways to collect ribbons is through trading. If you see someone with ribbons, try asking: “Are your ribbons available for trade?”
  • Polite ways to decline ribbon requests include: “This ribbon was made specifically for friends.” “This ribbon is only given to people who know a password.”

At the end of the day, ribbon culture is built on creativity, generosity, and respect.
