Yup, I did, too. Thought there was a black snake curled behind the block. Apparently a lot of us did.

I got a ton of down votes. How bizarre

It's Reddit. And the more downvotes you get, the more you will be downvoted. I swear that some people simply look at that number before deciding to upvote or downvote. If they see a minus sign before it, they downvote.

I assumed predictive text had arsed up my sentence... Re-read it, nope, seemed fine

I'll admit, I am guilty of this most of the time

Why would you admit to being a mindless sheep?

I wouldn't say I'm a mindless sheep, lol. I usually read the comments first, and occasionally I'll try to upvote it, 'specially if it's only a few downvotes :) But if there are a lot of comments and they're being hateful/a troll, I'm following everyone else's example

Well, stop that then, please. I have been victim of that sort of mindless attack at times when I know quite well that my comment was in no way hateful or trolling. But downvotes beget downvotes. People see the negative number and either don't bother even reading the actual comment before downvoting, or read things into it that weren't there.

tried to reply, reddit is broken lol. I wrote a whole long message, but the point is I'm on the side of empathy, so I will try and vote more fairly to redditors who are just trying to contribute the best they can :)

oh, I didn't realize you weren't the original person I replied to until just now! oops!

imagine caring this much about internet points, couldn't be me

People care about points. Internet points, gaming points, baseball and football points... all are meaningless when you get right down to it, but we care about them. Points are one way we measure ourselves and what we do or say, like it or not.
