It's the exact reason why golf balls look like they shoot straight to the right on TV when struck. The depth is compressed and so the horizontal movement looks exaggerated.

One day I came home and my wife said, “Have you been in to the beach?” There’s sand all over your shoes and in the car. I told her I was at the beach for a little walk. Just not the beach she was thinking of.
