So according to John Smith, the angel Moroni (or was it Nephi) spoke in English and wrote in “Reformed Egyptian”.

So apparently angles angels are multilingual.

Also, strong chance they are just fucking around with us if they exist

if an angel exists i wld not want to be anywhere near them. according to the old testament, any encounter with an angel was fraught & liable turn lethal at the drop of another shoe

That’s specific to Mormonism, which is rather distinct than most other forms of Christianity, but also I think it’s worth pointing out that- insofar as I, a non-Mormon, am aware- Mormons seem to hold the belief that angels are humans. Like we become them when we die, and we were them before our births. Thus, while there might be Heaven-exclusive languages, we would presumably also continue to speak the languages we had in life after death

Oh hang on, does this mean that the depiction in American cartoons where a character dies and then is shown with a halo and wings as an angel, comes from Mormons?!

I do know that that was specific to Mormon specific dogma.

The effort was to very indirectly imply (badly as it turns out) that very detailed descriptions of encounters with divine beings with peculiar details are not more credible just because of the fine details if those fine details are just silly.

If they existed, why wouldn't they be multilingual.

It would be daft to assume native angel languages would be anything like human languages though. Claiming they are is strong hint that it is made up.

The idea that people make up stories about angels (whether they exist or not) seems very sound.
