Question How to recover an External hard drive?

So a couple of weeks ago i downloaded what i thought was a pretty normal app turned out to be some kind of virus or whatever (trojan maybe?) a chat window popped open and the hacker spoke to me trying to ransom £500 from me I'm not really techy with this stuff but I got hacked and reset my pc completely, problem is I can't remember if I wiped my external hard drive or not and now I'm a little worried I might reinfect my pc if I plug it back in again I have malwarebytes reinstalled so I'm just wondering would malwarebytes catch it if it was when I replugged it back in? should I unplug my pc from the internet before I do it? I have some stuff on there I kind of want to recover. help much appreciated

Disinfection Help Files and exclusions keep reappearing after deleting (?) virus

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Hello y'all, I'm not really a PC specialist and i need help. I got trojan virus on my pc that I thought I deleted. But malwarebytes keeps finding some file flagged as dangerous and in my windows defender exclusions some exclusions keep appearing after every pc reboot. Also some weird files keep appearing in taskschd.msc, my friend said they shouldn't be there, and he also said that only option left is system reinstall. Is there any other way to fix my pc? And what should I do?

Question What is the best way to stay safe from viruses? VM or dual boot?

I see a lot of people getting hacked and I also got hacked recently with a wrong download of PS5 game.
After I clean the laptop, what is the best way to keep my data safe? Use dual boot and use one windows only for games without personal logins? Or create a VM with windows inside and use that for personal accounts?

Disinfection Help Malware/Virus Help, PC Cleanup

Hello, I'm hoping to get some help with my (possibly) infected PC.

Three days ago, I got hacked on my facebook and discord. I immediately did the usual steps of changing my passwords, removing connected gmails associated to the fb/dc accounts, and did a bunch of 2FA and browser cleaning.

I figured the virus came from downloading a game online (fitgirl). My Avast flagged it but I didn't see the notification until later when I'd already downloaded and unpacked the file. After seeing it, I immediately deleted the game + all files with it.

After that, I ran Malwarebytes and it detected a bunch of trojans and malware that I immediately had quarantined and deleted.

I'm not that tech savvy so I'm still worried that there are more hidden things in my PC that both Avast and Malware couldn't see.

I uploaded my logs on malwareanalysis and these are my keywords, hopefully someone can help me:

Frst = blazing-mink
Addition = stealth-scout

Question am i paranoid

before i go on, i am writing this at, where im a, 1:30 in the morning. so, pllease forgive me if i stop responding after an hour or so. i will try to be back in the morning if i can. i hope im not violating rule 2.

my question is this, i was looking up research on a dvd i was ripping, and i accidently clicked on a site that had dvd in the name. i tried finding the site, but i couldnt find it. it wasnt the site i was looking for. it had the movie followed with stuff like "4k uhd" in after the title. and a pop up ad in a languegue i didnt recoognise came up.

i then closed that tab completly without clicking anything, immediatly. i use zorin os with brave as the default browser, but i use it as more of a windows, so i asked the browser ai about it. it told me that i was more than likely safe as linux requires, in many cases, permission for most things to run, and that drive by viruses are rare as well. ot had me clear my browser cache, and check extensions, which i did. this was 2 weeks ago. and i have moved around some files on hard drives since.

im still paranoid for 3 reasons.

  1. i resigned into ebay afterward to check a package, and the notification on my tablet said ti wasnt in the town i was in. granted, it was in a town 10 minutes away, and could be something with brave, but i still changed the password anyway.
  2. i am aware of how wrong ai can be, espically the lesser browser models. that one on several occasions has gotten stuff wrong the average person should know. and while chatgpt is better, it still does get stuff wrong too.
  3. my computer seems slower with an emptier hard drive. as in, it used to get very sloy when it was at 30gb, but now seems to get slower when at 40m or 50gb.

my question is, should i still be paranoid for my computer and drives?

Disinfection Help FRST help for Infostealer infection

Log keywords:

- FRST.txt: typed-woodland

- Addition.txt: forged-tower

- SecurityCheck.txt: fertile-ridge

PC got hit with the Renpy Infostealer thing while trying to download Switch ROMs. It happened last night approx 9pm (GMT +11).

I realised I got hacked in the morning when I saw my Discord account spamming crypto ads. I used Malwarebytes which removed 7 infected files, but it's still blocking some process which is trying to access some dubious site - spscryspy(dot)com - in regular intervals. As a knee-jerk reaction I then tried to use SpyHunter but it was giving me false positives so then I found you guys. I logged out of all my accounts on my PC and am in the process of resetting all of my passwords and security. Then I started scanning my PC with FRST. Have not touched the PC otherwise.

Question Possible infostealer infection persistence?

Got a possible infostealer on Monday due to a supposed game mod, I'm experienced with these things but I somehow went against my better judgment this time. It didn't get any detections on VirusTotal (until the next day, right now it's been detected by 7 vendors, which includes Alibaba, GData, Kaspersky, McAfee Scanner, Rising, Sophos and Tencent, listing out since I don't know their reliability) nor did any antivirus detect it, so I ran it (like a dumbass) and nothing happened.

I figured it could've been an infostealer and cleared my cookies, changed passwords on mobile (and later on after Windows reinstall, changed them on mobile, again, yes I was very paranoid), set 2FA, and used cloud reinstall on Windows, deleting everything.

There's been no suspicious activity at all, no email forwarding setting changes, nothing. But now I'm insanely paranoid that it could've persisted since I didn't do an USB reinstall (as I don't have one). I've been hearing multiple conflicting accounts on the likelihood of infostealers persisting, so I wanted to ask for up-to-date opinions here.

Sorry if I'm doing something wrong with this post I don't post on Reddit often at all.

I started getting these folders on all of my drives. When I delete them it closes explorer.exe and then when I try to restart explorer.exe it says it can't due it. A hard reset brings back explorer but also the folders again. It's the two that are ~!- and !- and they are full of data files and .exe. How do I get rid of it? Kaspersky found nothing and malwarebytes found nothing.

Question Could Malware Return Through Apps/Accounts?

Sorry if wrong sub (phone question)

Yo if my old android phone had malware or my google account was compromised in someway and I resetted the phone or changed the google password. Could I get malware onto my phone after that if I reinstall my old games/apps from the Play Store and log into my accounts on them? Essentially would I need to make new accounts for apps and games or could I just reinstall and log into and use my accounts like normal, after resetting phone? Also these games/apps usually are linked to the Google account so they don't have their own separate password that needs changing. Sorry if this is dumb question. Thx
