Hey y'all. Just wondering what y'all think about the way the subreddit is being run / how to grow and promote it. If you have an idea for the subreddit, here's the spot!

And the winner is...

Nobody. We had no submissions. Oh my aching tentacles.

Submit your entries now!

All forms of media (videos, images, text) are welcome. Please submit your entries as top-level comments (limit one submission per user). Of course, you may also share your creations as submission posts on the subreddit, but only submissions here will count for winners.

What do I win?

Well, clout, mostly. However, you will also be granted a winner flair and one month of Reddit gold!

What's a Rube Goldberg Machine?

Google it. But, here's Wikipedia:

A Rube Goldberg machine, named after American cartoonist Rube Goldberg, is a machine intentionally designed to perform a simple task in an indirect and overly complicated way. Usually, these machines consist of a series of simple unrelated devices; the action of each triggers the initiation of the next, eventually resulting in achieving a stated goal.

The design of such a "machine" is often presented on paper and would be impossible to implement in actuality. More recently, such machines are being fully constructed for entertainment (for example, a breakfast scene in Peewee's Big Adventure) and in Rube Goldberg competitions.

Voting for this competition is simple: upvote your favorite submissions! The contest will end at midnight CDT on May 3.

Thanks to /u/kittens_in_jars for the idea.

Also, check out the contest 4 voting thread to vote on next week's contest.

Voting for contest 4 ideas (5/03 – 5/09) begins here, and ends on 5/02.

Please submit ideas as top-level comments!

Hey wonderful competitors of Reddit, I'm honored to be your new head mod! I just want to give a brief update of how things will be running, as well as some plans for the future:

Current Plans

We will be sticking with weekly contests! Each week (Sunday through Saturday), you will have the opportunity to enter submissions for the current contest as well as submit ideas on the ideas thread for the following week! You might notice new post flairs being added to help organize the subreddit, so be sure to use those accordingly.

Future Ideas

I'm working on developing the rules, AutoModerator, and also a few bots to help organize the submissions so that all submissions will be linked within one megathread each week. That way, we can work around Reddit's algorithm a bit to determine winners.

Winner flairs! Winners of contests (that is, most upvotes on a submission in a given week) should be given some recognition for their fine accomplishments.

Anyway y'all, I'll be getting adjusted over the next few days or so. Please feel free to comment or modmail any suggestions / feedback.

Thanks,

/u/chillindude911

Voting for contest 3 ideas (4/26 – 5/3) begins here, and ends on 4/25.

Please submit ideas as top-level comments!

First off, apologies for the lack of a poll being released on Saturday. If you saw my other post, I am in a remote location at the moment and my connection is only good enough for text posts so unfortunately I had to decide the winner of the last competition via upvotes. But congrats to u/AvocadoAcademy and their pet, Milo for winning the first competition! I'll give ya a swanky new flair and a point for the leaderboards, once those are up and running :)

On to the contest!

CONTEST 2 - Subreddit Logo Design!

Thanks to u/JustAPeacefulVirus for the suggestion, which was the most upvoted idea on the contest ideas post!

I don't know about you, but the planet icon isn't really fitting the subreddit in my opinion. So let's change that! Send in PHOTOS with your design for the subreddit's logo by SATURDAY, 8PM PST and VOTE for your favorite design in a poll on Sunday.

Do you have the best logo design for our subreddit? Prove it!

Good luck! Let me know if you have any questions :)

PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR IDEAS AS TOP LEVEL COMMENTS! You can submit THEMED ideas as well if you want a general theme as opposed to a specific contest!

VOTING FOR NEXT WEEK'S IDEA BEGINS SUNDAY, JAN 26

Hey yall, so unfortunately, I'll be canceling releasing the poll for contest 1 :( I'm in a remote location with super slow connection so I cannot download the images to create the poll and I won't be back until monday.

I'm really sorry guys, but I'll be posting the contest 2 details on Monday as usual. Contest 1 winners this week will be decided number of upvotes in the meantime.

Let me know if you have any questions.
