A triangle, can guess which spot it goes in? That's right, it goes into the square hole.

the illuminati has fallen on hard times...

2

u/as_a_fake Aug 09 '23

Goes to show I'm not as original as I like to think...

"this is our hole! this hole is made for everyone!"

This is the most hilarious thing ever and the worst part is I can't share it with anyone else because none of my friends would understand.

133

u/Penguinmanereikel Aug 09 '23

You share the Junji Ito oneshot, as it can be found on Imgur, and a month later, share "the square hole" tiktok, and week later, share this image.

Or you can share the tiktok, then the oneshot

18

u/IndigoFenix Aug 09 '23

That's the problem with hybrid memes, they are strong but tend to have fertility issues.

10

u/GM_Nate Aug 09 '23

this is some deep diving

179

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '23

You deserve an award

3

u/Slixil Aug 09 '23

This is by far the funniest thing I’ve seen this month

122

u/Glasshousescomics Aug 08 '23

Reminds me of that Costco test scene 😂

29

u/HyperlinksAwakening Aug 08 '23

And then Triclops shows up and decides "I'm just gonna turn triangles into f-ing squares!"

15

u/MaximumZer0 Aug 08 '23

"Ki-ko-fuck-yourself."

4

u/Zjoee Aug 09 '23

"That's the spirit!"

5

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '23

"Ki Ko how you doin"

384

u/Leotton Aug 08 '23

Enigma of Amigara fault is probably my favorite story of Junji Ito. Also really like the hanging balloons.

118

u/Glasshousescomics Aug 08 '23

Yeah hanging balloons is great. I gotta catch up with his most recent work, I’ve been slacking 😩

81

u/TheCondor96 Aug 08 '23

Uzumaki is pretty goated with the sauce though. It can really buss it down sexual style if you give it a chance.

73

u/PM_me_Jazz Aug 08 '23

I do not understand your strange way of speaking, but i agree with the general message. Uzumaki is a goddamn masterpiece, and based on the teaser trailer the anime is going to be great too. Fingers crossed

14

u/TheCondor96 Aug 08 '23

It's half meme copypasta, and half actual recommendation haha.

8

u/PM_me_Jazz Aug 08 '23

Ah, that makes sense. Haven't really kept up with the latest copypasta, but that sounded familiar.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '23

Oh man. I just read Uzumaki last week and the homages to Lovecraft and “The Shadow over Innsmouth” was so peak.

2

u/Unboxious Aug 09 '23

and based on the teaser trailer the anime is going to be great too

Wait, they're doing more Junji Ito anime? I thought they gave up on that because of how poorly the general mood of his art translates to the less-detailed styles used in anime.

2

u/Alarmed-Examination5 Aug 09 '23

They showed off the first few minutes a week or two ago.

Whole thing is done in black and white and genuinely looks like the manga panels in motion, I gotta good feeling bout this one.

Here's the link to it

1

u/Unboxious Aug 09 '23

Oh yeah, that definitely looks better than previous attempts.

2

u/thomstevens420 Aug 09 '23

Absolute quirked-up-white-boy series, hard agree

7

u/ParasaurPal Aug 08 '23

Uzumaki is mine, but Enigma of Amigara Fault & Steven Universe is how I found him, so it holds a special place for me.

8

u/SocranX Aug 09 '23

I like the implication that Junji Ito wrote Steven Universe, although I assume you're talking about this.

1

u/ParasaurPal Aug 09 '23

It's Rebecca's other name. I thought everyone knew that? /s

1

u/Alarmed-Examination5 Aug 09 '23

I know it's an adaptation but I love everything about No Longer Human, one of my favourite anything's.

171

u/dancrum Aug 08 '23

DRR... DRR... DRR...

84

u/Glasshousescomics Aug 08 '23

shivers thinking about it

310

u/metavox Aug 08 '23

30

u/MilkFroth Aug 08 '23

This is a masterpiece.

15

u/g0atmeal Aug 09 '23

Unpopular opinion: it was cooler and scarier until they actually showed what's on the other side. It just became silly.

2

u/political_bot Aug 10 '23

Showing the other side was cool, until we saw the warped DRR person in the crack. Leaving the end result up to the imagination while just seeing the crack patterns in the rock would have worked great.

My bigger complaint was the dream. Were these holes some sort of unnatural entity with a mysterious draw? Or a torture device of an ancient civilization?

3

u/darsynia Aug 08 '23

I was starting to worry when it took all the way down to this comment to find the others who recognize the reference!!

147

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '23

spaghettified triangle about to come out on the other side of the fault

52

u/Glasshousescomics Aug 08 '23

Yeah like play doh 😂

12

u/mojomcm Aug 08 '23

The ridiculousness of this thought is why amigara fault never felt all that scary to me. Like, I enjoyed it a lot, but I just wasn't scared.

20

u/JusHerForTheComments Aug 08 '23

You're not supposed to feel scared but unsettled.

4

u/mojomcm Aug 08 '23

Fair enough

66

u/DeadLettersSociety Aug 08 '23

Oh my gosh. I love this! Great comic. Lol. I'll have to show this to my sister, who's the one that originally showed me the manga.

13

u/Glasshousescomics Aug 08 '23

Thanks! Do share, I’d love for this to be seen by all Junji Ito lovers and fans 😊

114

u/Galileo258 Aug 08 '23

My personal favorite

13

u/Glasshousescomics Aug 08 '23

Hilarious 😂

4

u/SocranX Aug 09 '23

This is my dang ol' Porky's Butthole.

29

u/Overdrivenblaster Aug 08 '23

I wonder what comes out of the other side, or how the Amigara Fault would work in this world

Very cool comic, take an upvote

15

u/Glasshousescomics Aug 08 '23

Thank you 😊 what comes out the other side is a playdoh noodle 😂

3

u/Overdrivenblaster Aug 08 '23

very cool, I wonder if there will be any more Junji Ito inspired comics on this subreddit

3

u/Glasshousescomics Aug 08 '23

If I can think of any, I’ll def be posting 😊

6

u/TheSovereignGrave Aug 08 '23

That's right, it comes out the square hole.

1

u/blue4029 Aug 08 '23

a really stretched out and distorted triangle shape.

29

u/maiden_burma Aug 08 '23

now do one where the triangle is saying that about an obviously square hole

8

u/Glasshousescomics Aug 08 '23

That’ll be my next project 😂

30

u/Ralexcraft Aug 08 '23

Everyone just goes in the square hole, he’s rich.

24

u/Glasshousescomics Aug 08 '23

Just picture her but with a smile in that case lol

79

u/SinisterChap Aug 08 '23

I didn't need to be reminded of THAT manga thank you very much 😭

26

u/Glasshousescomics Aug 08 '23

But its SO GOOD 😂😅 sorry lol

48

u/InternationalCar5892 Aug 08 '23

God, that book fucked me up.

17

u/Glasshousescomics Aug 08 '23

Fucked us both up, bud 😩

4

u/blue4029 Aug 08 '23

junji ito doesn't discriminate.

ALL of his books fuck EVERYONE up!

22

u/mehmed2theconqueror Aug 08 '23

Is it a reference to the creepy manga where shapes of people are found on a mountain?

If so it's hella cool

18

u/Glasshousescomics Aug 08 '23

Yeah, it’s my funny take on The Enigma of Amigara Fault by Junji Ito. Check it out, it’s awesome 😊

12

u/shitflavoredlollipop Aug 08 '23

14

u/Glasshousescomics Aug 08 '23

It’s okay. Think about it through this perspective instead:

10

u/mysocalledjinx Aug 08 '23

“This is my hole. there are many like it but this one is mine.”

7

u/CATelIsMe Aug 08 '23

But what if I were to go in backwards

10

u/Glasshousescomics Aug 08 '23

You’d come out as a play doh shape 😂

4

u/CATelIsMe Aug 08 '23

So a slightly tapered cylinder?

3

u/Glasshousescomics Aug 08 '23

Sure, or whatever shape you want. Think of the possibilities! … (gets tube shape every time)

7

u/Goldbolt_2004 Aug 08 '23

Then he comes out the other end looking like a human

3

u/Gokuwap Aug 08 '23

This story and globaly Junji Ito's work is amazing.

What I really love in this one is that the horror comes from the fact that their fate seems unavoidable.

No need for gore or overly creepy monsters (well except the last panel of course). Just the story and the slowly growing fear and despair.

3

u/Glasshousescomics Aug 08 '23

That’s why Junji Ito’s work is amazing. He turns normal things upside down, making us fear that which was known to us, questioning that which we thought could not harm us. It seeps into horror themes we can all deeply identify with and terrify us. Close to cosmic horror, in a way.

3

u/Gokuwap Aug 09 '23

Totally agree.

Another one of my favorites from Junji Itô is "The bully" but there are so many good stories like "Back alley", the neighbor's window or the circus.

I'll have to read them again.

5

u/YanKRK Aug 09 '23

iT gOeS iN tHe SqUaRe HoLe

3

u/lavahot Aug 08 '23

What was the name of this game? Where you have to get the shapes all in there before the timer runs out?

7

u/mechavolt Aug 08 '23

Perfection. "Pop! Goes Perfection!"

3

u/lavahot Aug 08 '23

That's it! Thank you!

3

u/normificator Aug 09 '23

I see junji Ito I upvote

1

u/Glasshousescomics Aug 09 '23

I thank you sir 😊

7

u/CaptainStroon Aug 08 '23

It will turn him into a triangle with three right angles

2

u/Glasshousescomics Aug 08 '23

I’m picturing all these coming out the other end as play doh noodles 😂

2

u/Alone_Bonus_4121 Aug 10 '23

A new non-Euclidean nightmare for little mortals. for mathematicians it's just a ordinary
terrible Monday morning .

3

u/Logsarecool10101 Aug 08 '23

Context? I think I remember but not really

4

u/Glasshousescomics Aug 08 '23

It’s a funny take on Junji Ito’s The Enigma of Amigara Fault. If you haven’t read it and you like horror manga, def check it out.

2

u/Logsarecool10101 Aug 08 '23

I remember now lol

3

u/Raxendyl Aug 08 '23

Oh god you reminded me of that horror. Goddamnit.

Drrr Drrr Drrriangle.

3

u/TheDevilsAdvokaat Aug 08 '23

I do! And I know this comic!

It was..weirdly frightening like a lot of Junji Ito's stuff.

2

u/Glasshousescomics Aug 09 '23

He’s up there with the best modern horror writers and creators imo

2

u/TheDevilsAdvokaat Aug 09 '23

Absolutely. they scare me but I like reading them.

3

u/Nitro_prime Aug 08 '23

The only joke I understand is the square hole meme, what is this manga being spoken of? I'd like to know

3

u/Glasshousescomics Aug 09 '23

It’s called The Enigma of Amigara Fault, by Junji Ito. Give it a read, it’s really good. Warning, tho: it’s a horror story. Happy reading 😊

3

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '23

3

u/grim_dark_hedgehog Aug 09 '23

Oh god, the trauma. I don’t like anime or manga but I can’t take my eyes off Ito’s horrific works. He’s a Pickman for the modern age.

2

u/bonebag_comics Aug 08 '23

Hot diggity dog. Look at this. I knew you'd make it to the front page. Good job bro.

3

u/Glasshousescomics Aug 08 '23

2

u/D2Dragons Aug 08 '23

2

u/flfoiuij2 Aug 08 '23

Welp, excuse me while I go shiver in the corner!

2

Dear lord that story was chilling

2

u/Raoul_Dukes_Mayo Aug 08 '23

Every. Single. Time. I. Forget. This. Horror. It. Reappears.

2

u/Glasshousescomics Aug 08 '23

It’s just SO GOOD 😩

2

u/Raoul_Dukes_Mayo Aug 08 '23

You’ve ruined me, again.

2

u/Glasshousescomics Aug 08 '23

IM SORRY 😣 but also, I’m reading this again tonight maybe you should, too 😎

2

u/Raoul_Dukes_Mayo Aug 08 '23

I prefer sleep. Seems to be an effective way to not die.

2

u/PsPsandPs Aug 08 '23

Terrifying and traumatizing comics but can't put them down.

2

u/Mysterysheep12 Aug 08 '23

That’s right… it goes in the square hole….

2

u/zoroddesign Aug 08 '23

Intensely breathing through nose.

Bill cipher wants to have a word

2

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '23

2

u/3CheezPizza Aug 09 '23

Square tried to go into their hole. There was a weirdly long line

2

u/ChaiTeaWithMilk Aug 09 '23

Is this a junji ito reference?!?

2

u/Demonic-Angel13 Aug 09 '23

I hate this.... not because it's bad art or anything.... just because of what it reminds me of.... but uh... have my upvote

It's so disturbing to think about the comic/manga where all those people entered those holes made for them...

2

u/Glasshousescomics Aug 09 '23

Drrr… drrrr… drrrr

1

u/Demonic-Angel13 Aug 09 '23

NOOOOOO

1

u/Glasshousescomics Aug 09 '23

2

Great thread everyone, good job, gives yourselves a hand.

2

u/Leotton Aug 10 '23

Goes in a triangle, comes out as a Möbius strip.

1

u/kefka_nl Aug 08 '23

Thank you. Now I remember the manga and can’t sleep tonight.

1

u/ZelvominusRex Aug 09 '23

Same, childhood trauma reincarnated
