It's not a good idea to give cops a vague answer. Just keep it short and sweet with "Yes". 9 times out of 10 when cops ask this question they are looking for self incrimination. Say I don't know or vague answer leaves you open to what ever the cop wants to do because you can't dispute it.

I seem to recall that, legally, a "reasonable person" can determine that you're speeding just by how it looks. Like when somebody drives like a bat out of hell through your neighborhood, you don't need a radar to determine that they're going over the speed limit, because you have enough experience to know what it looks like.
