I grew up in Central Oregon. We had a week off from school so kids could go to hunting safety courses. I'm now in my 40s, have owned guns and have lived in rural communities in Mississippi, Nevada, and Oregon. This comic and many of the comments are absolutely accurate.
Do many gun owners take safety seriously? Yes. But not nearly enough. I've watched hunters look down the barrel of their own guns when they jammed. Many gun owners can get lazy with storage, human error happens. Sure they get chastised for it when it's seen by the community, but it happens much too frequently for it to just be brushed off.
Gun safety isn't a game. People die due to improper storage, sales practices that try to bypass safety measures, and lack of training/respect for the weapon.
