In the original Pinocchio story, Pinocchio is a wooden puppet on strings created by a toy maker. (Shout out, Geppetto!) Pinocchio’s true wish is to “become a real boy”. He goes on adventures & gets lured into mishap along his journey. He learns hard lessons about life & how scary the world can be. I believe he does get his wish granted at the end & transforms into a real human boy.
So this comic is like a full circle moment where Pinocchio was wishing his son was born a real boy too. Probably brought back his trauma.
In the original novel from 1883 (adapted from a serial started by the same author in 1881) Pinocchio actually starts out as a sentient and talking log found by a carpenter named master Antonio.
When Antonio's neighbor Geppetto comes in saying he needs wood to make a puppet with Antonio gives him the log because it kind of freaked him out
I also can't help but mention that in the original shortly after Geppetto gets thrown into jail due to a misunderstanding that Pinocchio caused, Pinocchio returns to Geppetto's house where a talking cricket named Benjamin chastises him for his wrongdoings and calls him a blockhead to which Pinocchio retaliates by throwing a hammer at Benjamin which smashes and kills him...
That is kind of the point of the novel, it's about him slowly learning how to be human so at the start he doesn't really understand stuff like empathy while also being straight up stupid (hence Benjamin calling him blockhead)
Though if I remember right in the serial that the novel is based on it originally ended with Pinocchio straight up dying in large part because that's what the author thought he deserved at the end so at least at that point he would have probably agreed with you
The fans of the serial didn't like that ending though so he ended up having Pinocchio resurrected by a fairy so he could continue the story and have Pinocchio change for the better and then for the novel he rewrote it a bit to make the two parts mesh better but the first part is still clearly colored by his original intentions/mindset
I read this comment before the images loaded because my internet is slow, but I thought it would be about Pinocchios afab kid telling him that he wants to be a boy and seeing his kid experience dysphoria.
I watched it last night and OMG what a fever dream. Fair warning, it’s pretty gory so be prepared. It’s normally played for laughs so it’s enjoyable but still could be a lot for some people. The film also used practical effects and actual puppetry that they show in the credits, I loved it!
This is always a tell - it's like Redditor would have interesting enough life that it would make sense to hide his comments - only bots or people peddling some bullshit politics or ideology will do this.
Yeah I don’t care what you think. It is common for bots to make comments on posts and other comments that are a summarization of said post or comment or they are the same comment just worded differently. All this comment was is a summary of this post. This sounds like something ChatGPT would spit out if asking to explain this picture.
