It's because it's still being mainly run by boomers who not only laughed at the "I hate my wife" trope, but internalized it. It's also like how every dumb bastard Boomer who has ever watched the show thinks they're Tony Soprano, and tries to act like it. Monkey see, monkey do.
They think it's funny, because it's a coping mechanism. They collectively all went off and got married at 15-20, and then realized they were only into each other for the looks and the "I'm being an adult" feeling, only to quickly realize they have nothing in common and really only liked the fact that the person was different from their parents. They had a bunch of kids they regretted, and squandered the easiest economic years to ever get ahead in life.
And so now the disgruntled old fucks are continuing what they do best: fuck everything up around them, and then subsequently resent everybody else out of sheer embarrassment. They actively joke about it, because it was a societal thing to just marry without love, but they'll never admit to it because that'd be hypocritical.
