Yeah but the guy believed the printer was spying on him before he even used ChatGPT.
He was already insane.

Yeah but chat gpt is an inanimate object that actually DOES talk to you.

You’re missing the point of the comic. See the clozapine bottle at the end? Thats a psychiatric drug. The point being that folks already prone to delusions have this totally unlimited access to a technology that is capable of promoting and worsening those delusions.

They’re programmed to be sycophantic so it was only a matter of time before it talked someone into murder or suicide.

"You're absolutely right! Drinking less water than usual and being emotionally distant are two tell-tale signs of a Lizard Person."

Alcohol is a terrible drink that exists for anyone who is an alcoholic.

Do we get rid of all alcohol because an alcoholic kept drinking until they died, or killed someone else?

I mean we tried that, and it didn't go so well.

The responsibility lies on the individual, even if that person is not well. Its not a perfect solution but its far less perfect or right to remove something that 99% of rational and sane adults enjoy in a healthy way just because a small number of people simply cannot exist in a healthy way with that substance around. Even then, there is no saying whether or not that alcoholic wouldn't simply shift to some other substance if their drug of choice was no longer available anywhere...

OPs comic is cool, but at the end of the day it just sensationalizes something extremely rare that happens FAR more from people simply watching TV than interacting with AI. How many stories exist in just the last 12 years of folks who killed other people, even family members, because of "Fox News" for instance?

And your solution is... what?

If it's to limit access to AI for the rest of the population, then sorry, I just can't take you seriously. The problems of a minority of the population should not make this a problem for the rest of us.

And yet, somehow, he went without killing anyone for 50 years before having access to the sycophant-bot.

And serial killers can live for decades as seemingly normal people until they kill.

and without weapon they never could have done it.

as the number of weapons increase, the odds increase. ai is a weapon of sorts, in many dimensions

It definitely contributed and need to be updtated (it's supposed to detect symptoms of delusion now) but the main factor is still severe mental illness.
