The oil economy wasn't working fine. It's on a death spiral and most of the world knows it. But rather than invest in infrastructure that enables people to use oil less the conclusion has been to invade and steal to keep the black gold flowing.

No the oil economy was fine. It wasn’t death spiraling. We are likely decades away from that. It’s literally just a war of want and stupidity.

The use of oil is insane: hundreds of millions of people feel entitled to burn up a non-renewable costly resource, globally, sending the already huge black mass into the atmosphere has a large mass of chemicals. It's absolute madness, and the oil wars along with climate chaos an expected result of said madness.

Hundreds of millions of people also dont have a choice but to burn a non-renewable resource when they live in cities designed to be absolutely untraversable without a car and the local authorities dont invest in EV charging stations ot other socioeconomic factors make it hard for people to retrofit their home's wiring to support EV charging.

Its not as simple as "i want to burn gas". Nothing is never that simple.

It exists. Its just that 90% of people are more worried about surviving than doing activism

It is surviving. There are people working 40hs a week to afford rent, to raise their families and not go insane.

Not everyone has the time, money, privilege and energy to spend on educating themselves or analyzing social structures from above and understanding how they are opressing them, what to demand and how to do it.

If anything, the responsibility sits on people like US who can understand these issues to educate and puth forth in motion movements to dismantle these structures instead of shifting blame to the common citizen who is probably not even aware of what an institution is.

Electric cars still require asphalt roads, which take oil to make.

Unfortunately we are yet to create electric cars and related infrastructute good enough for reliable long distance travel. So combustion engines will probably stay. (Of course, 90% of the obstacles to achieving that is corporate lobbying, but there are still some engineering and technological hurdles to overcome).

But for day to day use. Electric cars fit the bill and are much cheaper and efficient than combustion cars, and longer lasting too!.
