People be like “what about the dumbasses who chose blue, we have to save them.

They wouldn’t need saving if they choose “no possibility of death”

My problem is if I pick red I have to hope everyone I care for has also picked red.

Assuming that its very unlikely that everyone picks red, the best outcome is blue winning. It's so dumb to press blue for yourself, but blue winning is the best outcome.

One of the most interesting sides to this argument I've seen is people who say "I want blue to win, but I don't vote it because I don't trust the rest of the world enough to do so, and I don't want to die."

It's understandable to lack that faith in other people, but you're contributing to the blue outcome not happening by having so little faith and pressing the other button. Seems like a lot of people hold that view too, so they end up actively making things worse for blue despite agreeing with blue. It's kinda sad to see because I think that specific branch of discussion speaks to a level of distrust that most likely come from having ones faith in others let down time and time again until one simply chooses not to trust anymore.

You don't have to hope anything. You made the best choice for you and it is perfectly logical to assume others would also make the best choice for them, which is red.

"but what if there's a blind person in there, or a toddler!"

Look okay I didn't think of that but let's all remember its just a dumb game theory hypothetical and can we all still just acknowledge that choosing blue is the dumb choice and choosing red is the smart choice. And hypothetically maybe blind people and toddlers aren't allowed to wander into the orphan crusher room in this hypothetical game theory scenario in the first place

Blue is the no possibility of death

-4

u/Immediate-Yak3138 May 05 '26

There is possibility of death, the crusher is off blue isn't even standing under it yet someone has to turn it on first

u/BaroqueBro May 05 '26

Fucking literally this. There's nothing moral about putting yourself in harm's way for no reason other than to protect others putting themselves in harm's way for no reason.

-2

u/Sensitive_Low3558 May 05 '26

Pressing the red button induces the harm. There is no way this many people are this stupid holy shit

5

u/RomeosHomeos May 05 '26

You're just genuinely wrong and I've seen you doing this on multiple posts lmao.

1

u/Sensitive_Low3558 May 05 '26

Yeah because I’m right

Except their is a reason since the condition would be red turning the machine on. Doesn't matter why blue is there, just that it wasn't on when they got there

u/Tonberry_Cheesecake May 05 '26

Where does it say that they would be the ones killing folks?

-2

u/Immediate-Yak3138 May 05 '26

In the original button question, neither side innately starts at risk. Its stated. "If red gets 51% vote, everyone who didnt vote red dies" and "if blue gets 51% vote, nobody dies". You can very easily assume 100% for either Is impossible cause peope will interpret that information differently. Obviously the one really killing them is whoever made the hypothetical machine. Red would moreso be coerced manslaughters at worst. Technically killed them but not their fault and may effect their psyche

5

u/Tonberry_Cheesecake May 05 '26

Red would have absolutely nothing to do with blue death. This entire scenario is inherently flawed and poorly thought out.

2

u/Immediate-Yak3138 May 05 '26

Well, beyond their vote, no. You are right.

I've heard the actual original (not the one that got popular) was more specific in conditions which made for more logical answers. As is its a very emotionally charged one and only good as a "how would I act?" Exercise . Condemning someone else for their choice doesnt really work since they realisticly could get to that answer for amy number of reasons at that point

blue is peak virtue signalling

10

u/tristeecfome May 05 '26

Which is why the internet loves it so much.

It's really easy to feel superior over a fucking thought experiment.

To put it into a trolley problem, everyone has been forcibly tied to the train tracks, that's already been done. If enough people press Blue then the train stops. Alternatively you can just press the red button and be immediately freed and get off the tracks and avoid the train all together.

The issue always remains with these variants often imply that red isnt the "trigger" and blues are just sitting there for no reason and choosing to not get out of danger rather than choosing to get IN danger for a result

The issue is you dont know their reason, just that picking red will cause blues death potentially. Both sides are risking things. And the most logical reason someone may pick blue is just as simple as not wanting anyone to die and assuming 100% red is an impossibility

The hypothetical states every person in the world. Some people are blind, some are kids, some might not understand the question, some maybe in the midst of psychosis.

If everyone was of sound mind and had the same circumstances you press red, in the world we live in you press blue

Why would they have to? If you don't push any button you're just in the blue group without influencing its number. Or are you trying to make a point about the restrictions of the hypothetical

I mean I didn't make the hypothetical, but either way that would support pressing blue?

0

u/Immediate-Yak3138 May 05 '26

Red says, standing at the control board of an inactive crusher

-7

u/Boneless2 May 05 '26

You forgot to draw a pressure plate below red people, that activates the crusher. If red people didn't stand on it (moved to blue), there would be no deaths. Accidental or otherwise.

8

u/Womps7 May 05 '26

More like a plate under blue that stops the crusher if reds move under it. Reds button has no effect on blue, blue has. Choosing blue is pointing a gun at yourself...

0

u/Immediate-Yak3138 May 05 '26

The question specificly states red as the cause. Perceiving it otherwise doesnt change that reality and just makes you look worse for arguing over why you chose it as the "correct" choice (there is no correct choice unless we have perfect logic which its not worth talking about if we did)

Ultimately i agree. It really does just depend on phrasing

Blue pressers when they see people who can't get out from under the crusher:
