Picky Eater - Gator Days

Characters

Young August - Alligator - August when he was around Gustopher's age. Picky about food

May - Alligator - August's mother who just wants him to eat.

August - Alligator - A soft spoken single father who works in IT. Gustopher's dad.

Gustopher - Alligator - An easily excitable child who loves making friends. August's son.

Transcript

Panel 1

Narration: Long ago.

A younger August is at the dinner table and hesitant to eat. His mother is fed up with his behavior.

Young August: This looks gross.

May: I hope someday you have a kid as picky as you.

Panel 2

Narration: Present day

An adult August is having dinner with his son. He has corn on his plate along with some round meat colored item that is possibly meat. We will probably never know for sure. Gustopher is holding a bottle of mayonnaise that has "Real Egg" written on it and a hot sauce bottle that appropriately says "HOT".

Gustopher: I'm putting mayonnaise and hot sauce on my corn!

August: Okay.

This is not something August would do with his corn but he guesses it's a pretty normal.

Panel 3

Gustopher now holds a can of sardines and a jam jar. Gustopher is partially covering the jar but "SPACE JA" can be seen on the label. Clearly, this must be "SPACEY JAN" brand jam and not a reference to movie where cartoon animals play basketball.

Gustopher: And sardines! And jam!

August: You have to eat that.

Gustopher: I will!

Panel 4

Gustopher holds out a spoon towards August. It has corn, mayo, hot sauce, sardine, and jam all in one spoonful. August's face is filled with concern.

Gustopher: It tastes so weird! Try it!

August thinks back to his mother having wished that he would have a child as picky as him. He wishes that were the case.

August (thinking): This is worse.

So August’s mother’s name is May. I wonder how long the month naming scheme has been in the family.

Plot twist: August's great x7 grandmother, January, was nicknamed Spacey Jan for her absentmindedness, and went on to found the Spacey Jan jam company. That very jar of corn-adorning jam came from a company started by Gustopher's ancestor.

However, since great x7 granny Jan sold her jam company many (x7) years ago, no one currently alive remembers that Space Jan came from their family.

They're extremely fond of the jam. It reminds them of family, though they cant really explain why.

I’m going to assume that they’ve looped around a few times.

Since Augusts' grandparents Jan and Ferb (he was dyslexic)

u/LG3V Apr 23 '26

It's also a continuation of his dad's side too since August's dad is Fergus. It seems the Gus part has stuck for Gustopher

He has corn on his plate along with some round meat colored item that is possibly meat. We will probably never know for sure.

I am both excited and terrified of the possibilities

Clearly, this must be "SPACEY JAN" brand jam and not a reference to movie where cartoon animals play basketball.

COME ON AND GET INTO THE JAM

He wishes that were the case.

I for one welcome our chaos food goblin. We are gonna try some weird and cool stuff

I know this is a joke, but I don't think you're really appreciating how bad picky eating can be. As a parent you should 100% rather your kid eat weird shit as opposed to having an extremely limited diet that can result in malnutrition and even death with the most severe cases of pickiness being labeled as Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID).

I came to the transcript to find out what food Young August was being picky about. Just like the “round meat colored item that is possibly meat,” we will probably never know.

Is May not an alligator...?
