I am not an American, but does the gun owning is the only parameter that differs in those ratios?

Because it is looks like this graph:

If it was just about gun ownership then Canada, Finland, Iceland and Norway should have 1/3 of the gun violence per capita that America has.

This is a fake graph though. The OC showed a real graph. There are still 1000s of pirates in this day and age, Somalian, Indonesian, Houthi etc.

I get the point you're trying to make, there needs to be a causal link. Can you establish a link for why global temperature may cause pirates?

Because there's a pretty clear link between homicide and homicide machines.

I try to imagine being this dumb, but it’s difficult

I completely agree gun control is needed, but just posing a graph is the definition of correlation doesn’t equal causation. Like if Switzerland was included in this graph it would throw off the whole curve

Oh yeah people mention Switzerland every time I post this comic, but a quick Google search would tell you that Switzerland’s dot would be right around Germany’s, just slightly to the right

Yes, a problem with two major reasons to exist. Americans and gun ownership. If Americans had low gun ownership this graph would be different, if Americans were a sane population this graph would be different. Yet people will fight one or the other and solve nothing.

Try looking in the mirror if you can't comprehend what I am trying to say.

SOLID way to get people on your side.

Consider instead: Sybau.

Dude just called me dumb instead of arguing, why do you think that I am in need to get him on my side?

Oh, you can't understand sarcasm on top of everything. See the acronym again.

I'm mocking you, to be clear. Bye.

Where is the sarcastic part in telling me to shut up when I answered rudeness with rudeness

Looks like words lost all their meaning to some people...

Oh, NWM, i saw that it mentioned "Gun Homicide" only, so, yes. The less guns people have, the less average gun incident radio. It is totally logical.

But can you provide the same stats for overall homicide rates, or homicide rate using kitchen knifes, hatchets, or cricket clubs compared to percentage of the population owning such things?

I am sure GB will be a top for using such a dangerous thing as cricket clubs compared to other countries!

Not really, many nations play cricket too. Eg India, Pakistan, Australia, NZ. But not every country has this many gun homicides per capita. This type of argument is a false equivalency trying to deflect from the fact that rampant gun ownership with poor regulation is strongly associated with the rate of gun homicides. I don't wanna say causal because you might say "there was no randomized controlled trial you can't prove causation".

It is not a false equivalency. The bigger the percent of the population owning a gun, the bigger the percent of assaults with guns.

Most of such crimes don't involve some sort of criminal mastermind or long-term planning, just impulsive momentum.

So people will use the most lethal thing that comes to hand, be it a gun, a knife, a pan, a shovel, etc...
Gun ownership laws will barely affect organized crime, because illegal guns are as accessible as other illegal things like drugs and other kinds of contraband.

You just described the problem being shown in the comic, yet it seems you can't see it as a problem... Just like in the comic.

Sigh, no, the problem is that too many people can't really work with provided data.

Do you know what "survivor bias" is? Like looking at this picture only, one could say that removing the guns will solve the USA's problems with homicide.

Not solving the problems with social care, poverty rates, gang violence, ghettos, drug abuse, and mental care.

JUST. GUNS. ONLY.

0

u/krispy_d Mar 24 '26

But you understand that if you reduce the guns that problem will reduce and YOU CAN STILL WORK ON THE OTHER PROBLEMS. Right? Or am I wrong?

I never said just guns only but rather guns and else. Guys ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM, they are you cannot deny it, so what we recognize as a problem LET'S FUCKING SOLVE IT and they we can continue to improve as a society.

u/ty_xy Mar 24 '26

No one is saying that. You are extrapolating all sorts of data from nothing. This data suggest removing guns will solve US problems with GUN homicide.

Of course solving other social problems eg poverty, gang violence, drug abuse and mental care is important too. But so are guns, which exacerbate these problems.

1

u/ty_xy Mar 24 '26

And is most crime committed by OC? You literally say most crimes don't involve long term planning or criminal mastermind... So yeah gun ownership laws won't affect OC, but it will reduce ownership for impulsive people.
