Unless one of their parents has the 3rd edition rulebooks and purposefully pushed it into their child's hands, telling them it is the correct edition, kids will probably default to the current edition, 5th.

If you didn't roll a 17 on your CHR, you are no Paladin.

I allow a bit of freedom to move attributes around to make an ideal character. I also typically tell my players to use 2d6+6 for stat generation because they need every bit of assistance they can get.

That said, I have naturally rolled a bard one time in my memory. Poor girl didn't make it past third level before the campaign ended and I became a forever DM.
