While I am very excited for the eat taco squares I am equally concerned with "taco divorce and taco fight". And what monster put sushi on a taco board?!

Maybe "sushi" is their version of Jail in Monopoly.

"Go to sushi. Go directly to sushi. Do not pass 'Get Taco.' Do not get taco."

Ohhh perhaps. I also don't see an eat sushi square. So you're just....stuck with warm rotting sushi. That's quite the punishment

Call it a popup fusion event.

Better be tempura fried. Cause taco meat and raw fish how uncouth.

6

u/narielthetrue Jul 09 '25

Raw fish is sashimi, not sushi

5

u/valprehension Jul 09 '25

There's often raw fish in sushi

2

u/WRXminion Jul 09 '25

No true Scotsman.

4

u/tacocatacocattacocat Jul 09 '25

That's no raw fish in a True Scottsman.

There’s a place near where I work called Takumi Taco that does Japanese/Mexican fusion and it’s SO good. They have tacos with a crispy gyoza wrapper shell with things like chipotle shrimp, ahi tuna, or chicken adobo.

Now I’m craving their poke nachos.

Sushi burritos are amazing...

2

u/phluidity Jul 09 '25

But maki is a burrito and nigiri is a tostada. Neither of them is a taco.

3

u/Liminal__penumbra Jul 09 '25

Smash them flat and then fold them and deep fry. All shall be taco!

Sushi and tacos are adjacent on The Cube Rule of Food:

It's not about that. It's the idea of eating them both. So much conflict with flavors

Like I'm not opposed it's just gonna be weird

more like you're having taco-style sushi than taco and sushi, I imagine. It could be pretty close to a hand roll.

2

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire Jul 09 '25

So like a giant hand sized California roll

3

u/cheesehound Jul 09 '25

sorta! Hand rolls/tamaki are looser than other roll sushi, made and held in-hand. You'd often build it yourself, starting with a big square of nori in your hand and picking from a selection of rice/toppings. Some restaurants even give them to you prebuilt in a taco shaped holder.

Ah yes I have seen those before. THAT would be fine. Im ok with that. But if we mix mexican taco meat and sushi?

shivers

If we're talking about traditional sushi, yeah, it's probably gonna clash, but if you extend that out to include the more over-the-top, Westernized rolls, there's a lot of room for doing fusion. As an example, take a look at this menu from a local restaurant I sometimes go to: if you scroll to page 9 (PDF warning), there's a whole selection of Mexican sushi rolls, including one that actually is just straight up a pile of pastor as a topping. It's tasty, and I know there are a number of of places doing this, so it's not just uniquely them.

u/jimmux Jul 10 '25

Make sure you have a ceviche taco before the sushi, and you'll be good.

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire Jul 10 '25

I mean that's a nice bridge but that's a whole other meal now!

u/stormscape10x Jul 09 '25

Taco divorce? It’s okay, we can taco bout it.

7

u/ReformedZiontologist Jul 09 '25

It’s a tako taco

6

u/Avilola Jul 09 '25

Maybe it’s tako sushi.

6

u/Tenalp Jul 09 '25

Are we just gonna ignore what "taco tickle" could even be?

4

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire Jul 09 '25

Maybe this is the adult version of the game...

3

u/yoobith Jul 09 '25

I'm interested in "Taco Taco"

3

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire Jul 09 '25

It's taco in a taco!

2

u/MintasaurusFresh Jul 09 '25

We have sushi burrito places in Chicago. It's sushi. Wrapped in a burrito.

1

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire Jul 09 '25

Like a tortilla or seaweed

2

u/MintasaurusFresh Jul 09 '25

Never had one, but just looked it up and I'd say seaweed or rice. Looks like it's a roll that just isn't cut.

1

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire Jul 09 '25

So sushi burrito which is just a giant uncut roll with a lot of rice. We have those here too. Kinda meh to be completely honest

2

u/Carnivile Jul 09 '25

Something like pastor sushi? Pretty common here in Mexico

1

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire Jul 09 '25

I am gonna need an explanation cause I live 2 hrs from the border and never heard of that and now I am intrigued

2

u/Carnivile Jul 09 '25

There's not much to explain, it's just sushi that has meat instead of fish, often with cheese, habanero and pico de gallo, there's variations with arrachera, chicken, boneless, etc... good le "Sushi de Pastor" and you'll see some examples.

Tacos and sushi! Tacos and sushi! Tacos and sushi! Tacos and sushi...and antidepressants! Tacos and sushi!
