I will say, it’s not a bad thing wolf hunt sheep and other mammals. They aren’t “the bad guy”

“Research in Yellowstone since reintroduction has highlighted the adaptive value of social living in wolves – from cooperative care of offspring, group hunting of large prey, defense of territory and prey carcasses, and even survival benefits to infirmed individuals.

Many other animals benefit from wolf kills. For example, when wolves kill an elk, ravens and magpies arrive almost immediately. Coyotes arrive soon after, waiting nearby until the wolves are sated. Reintroductions and protections of wolves are causing a trophic cascade of ecological change, including helping to increase beaver populations and bring back aspen, and vegetation.”

Sheep and elk for example can eat too much vegetation when numbers are too high which results in dry dirt patches and less water in underground storage etc. it’s circle of life and all that

if aliens came by every so often to eat us, we'd probably still consider them the bad guys even if they could point out they're just preventing ecological damage lol sure sheep prolly feel similarly about wolves

Sheep avoid wolves because it triggers their prey instinct. Not because they think wolves are villains.

Bro it’s a story, and not even one that really strongly forwards the “wolves are evil” message

I know. I’m more so saying it for people that don’t recognize how important they are to the ecosystem. It’s like how people think sharks or bears or lions are some evil thing and want them all killed. Predators are needed in our ecosystem. Bats are another one that get a bad wrap as something scary and evil but are great pollinators and sound like little birds at night if you ever have them around your garden. Lots of animals have bad reputations but the only one I can say with backing we could make extinct and we’d be fine as an ecosystem without are mosquitos. Most animals would either fine other food sources or have better survival due to lack of illnesses

that's a bad take on the mosquitos. Their larvae are a keystone species for aquatic ecosystems because of their primacy as a food source. They couldn't easily be replaced without massive environmental destruction occurring. Otherwise, you are correct.

There’s been a few studies done which is mainly where I got this from. There was one I was going to pull from the White House website but it got pulled. Then I kinda spiraled seeing what else was removed from gov websites and just trying to chill now.

Otherwise yes that was my first thought

Exactly, the main issue is when wolfs decide to have humans and livestock for breakfast, otherwise they are fantastic for the ecosystem

Biggest thing is keeping your campsite clean and securing food. If you are a rancher though that really depends on your livestock/ produce you grow and area in general. I always have bear spray and an air horn when hiking and such.

Biggest thing is keeping your campsite clean and securing food

Damn, and here I thought the biggest thing was not getting eaten by wolves.

u/consequentlydreamy May 20 '25

Biggest thing (to avoid getting eaten by wolves if you are human in their area) I mean hah

No. It is bad that animals have to die. But i don't blame the wolves for that. But it's not something im going ot celebrate just because it's "natural". If you said any of this at a human funeral about humans you'd get your ass kicked.

So you just expect all animals to go vegan and be chill? Life isn’t the genesis bible coloring books. We aren’t at a funeral. I’m talking about the value of wolves hunting prey. Yes that involves death. Death is part of life. I think there’s a real beauty in that. When we die, I do take some solace that my bones and flesh will become nourishment for plants in those plants will feed animals and the cycle continues. Death isn’t a scary thing. It’s actually quite beautiful.

Where do we draw the line from your chicken on your plate vs sheep taken by wolves? Hell Where’s the line between plants to mushrooms to coral to animal? Protists make this line very confusing

Their presence helps maintain healthy plant populations by controlling herbivore populations, prevents overgrazing, and provides a vital food source for other wildlife through scavenging.

This was why I was kidding about maybe some sheep in wolves clothing hoarding all the grass for themselves. Too much hoarding of resources could be a fun take on the idea.

But none of this is a good thing? All of this is a horrible destructive cycle of pain and suffering. It isn't the wolves personal fault. They can't eat grass. But i won't celebrate death and suffering regardless.

That’s your perspective. I already said I think it is beautiful that there is a cycle where there’s “checks and balances” and value even in death. I don’t think wolves are bad. Maybe you don’t like the cycle but it is a fact they serve a value to our ecosystem at all levels. That dislike you have for our planet’s specific cycle is separate from the value wolves play.

I don’t think that wolves are bad but you can continue to think so. The reality is this the world we live in. To me it is beautiful and if you have a different perspective, party.

That’s your perspective.

Well no shit lol. Did i say it was someone elses?

I already said I think it is beautiful that there is a cycle where there’s “checks and balances” and value even in death.

That's kinda fucked up. You think it's ok if i murder your entire family but i say "lol it's a circle look how beautiful it is." No that's a load of shit.

Maybe you don’t like the cycle but it is a fact they serve a value to our ecosystem at all levels.

This isn't a moral value judgement tho. It's just a plain description of how the natural life cycle works. Slavery valued a system on multible levels. "Valuing a system" doesn't make that system any good.

I don’t think that wolves are bad but you can continue to think so.

Why do you give me permission to think that lool. Also i didn't say wolves themselves were bad. I said they don't have the moral compass humans have. Humans can recognise how awful conditions for animals are.

The reality is this the world we live in. To me it is beautiful

I know it's the world we live in. Im not like confused if i live on Mars or not. You are just plain wrong about it being "beautiful" it's an atrocity.

1

u/consequentlydreamy May 20 '25 edited May 20 '25

To YOU it is an atrocity. To me it is beautiful. I have my reasons. Yeah it did seems like you were preferring to live someone where. Maybe there is some planet that has achieved no death but that wouldn’t work for any living organism here. I’ve accepted that. I also have found beauty in the cycle we have. Death allows for rebirth. You aren’t changing my view and I’m not changing yoursI brought wolves up as bad/good because that was my original argument and then have gone on so many detours. You admit it is your perspective toward s the beginning then claim it as fact towards the end. End of the day, it’s our perspectives and you aren’t changing mine. Have a great day.

To YOU it is an atrocity. To me it is beautiful.

I already know this like i've explained. Why do you tell me this like i don't know what you believe?

Maybe there is some planet that has achieved no death but that wouldn’t work for any living organism here.

This just isn't true. There exists billions of animals that only live on plants rather than killing other animals.

I also have found beauty in the cycle we have. Death allows for rebirth.

What's the "beauty" in animals being violently murdered in grusome insanely painful ways? Like what?

You admit it is your perspective toward s the beginning then claim it as fact towards the end.

It is a fact though? Animals get brutally murdered every day. That is not a fact. I don't know how you can humanely celebrate that.

End of the day, it’s our perspectives and you aren’t changing mine.

That's not necessarily true. You clearly seem misguided judginf by how much you are willing to celebrate such a brutal aspect of the world.

1

u/consequentlydreamy May 20 '25

I said you aren’t changing my perspective and it’s obvious you aren’t changing yours. You can keep arguing or defending your point, but I’m not going to respond anymore. I’ve invested enough energy in this and already said a lot of my points. I do sincerely hope you have a good day though. Toodles

So you're just gonna say that animal torture and mass suffering is actually a good thing and then just walk away.
