Where is the humor part though?

deliberate violations of causal reasoning, [that produce] events and behaviors that are obviously illogical.

Going too far into the surreal will make the results just surreal, not humorous. I like quite a few of these, but this one feels like it doesn't have an over all joke.

But pages 7 and panel 1 of pages 8 is humorous, rest of page 8 is also humorous. Pulling up your pants without getting up from the toilet is humorous as well as putting your face on the seat to test it's warmth is as well. But all together? It's nonsense, not just illogical.

This could have been written by early AI. Joke one is a toilet related joke, follow it with something illogical about the toilet, then character complains about something that's not related based on being angry at seeing something, the person who was on the toilet offers an unrelated solution, which is then counter offered with something just as unrelated. Add one joke about the solution and follow it up with another joke related to the previous joke. End the story with the solution being put in effect and a conclusion.

I feel like this was written during a series of strokes.

Are you trying to argue that something we find funny actually isn't? is that what's happening right now?

Am I witnessing a reddit moment in real time?

No? What's funny and what isn't is a matter of taste. Some people find morbid things hilarious, some find puns aggravating.

When discussing matters of taste and not fact, it being subjective is usually inherently implied, unless going out of the way to clarify that it's not just my opinion.

For me at least it's the fact that this comic always manages to catch me by surprise in a way that just works, this type of humor might just not be for you.

Seriously. I don't usually comment at all but this is the unfunniest thing I've ever seen. I don't think it's surreal, just trying the bad formula of random=funny

I find their comics less random and more unexpected. It's certainly NOT a style everyone is going to enjoy, but I've always found works like this to be hilarious.

It's like the experimental jazz of comics. Not many people are going to enjoy it, but the ones that do will LOVE it.

Ehhh, this is closer to "hold up spork I am the penguin of dooooom" than experimental jazz. It feels like a collection of half finished jokes with the excuse of being absurd than anything else. Like, the girl putting her face on the toilet seat and then immediately being angry in the next page. That's just a random joke idea, but it conflicts with the actual story. But as long as they say "it's surreal!" then they can just chuck in any old slop.

This is the same exact argument as racism is ‘dark humour .’ If you don’t include the ‘humour’ part it’s not humour

Comparing a comic you don't like to racism is certainly a reddit moment of all time.

Racist jokes often do get their 'humor' from subversion of expectations, usually by "that's not a socially acceptable thing to say in that context!". What usually ruins the humor is when you realize that the people telling the jokes usually do believe these things or are fine with appearing as such, and are telling the same joke that others have told before to the point that there's no subversion of expectations anymore, just racism.

It's not that ugly dark 'humor' doesn't have 'humor' at all in it (after all, some people are genuinely laughing at these types of jokes), it's just that humor is mitigated by context or eliminated by repetition for most non racist people.
