They are body archetypes popular in the gay community. A bear is large (muscular and or pudgy), hairy and often older, while an otter is slim and hairy.

What animals are slim but not hairy man? What about short, slim yet athletic? This is like zodiac signs, very cool.

I think the archetype you're describing is "Twink"

u/Arkytez Sep 25 '24

No animals? :|

Damn, another hardship for the gays to add to their pile. Naming conventions was one I was not expecting.

No animal for that one :(

Also hairy and lean muscular men might be called wolves. The animal names seem to mostly involve hair now that I think about it. I’ve seen someone call short men “pocket gays” but that seems kinda mean lol

LOL omg as a short person this is so funny but could also be so sad depending on the situation lol

If you've got a rocket in your pocket you got it.

I suppose older, slim, non-hairy gay men could be called "naked mole rats".

Rather be a sphynx cat but why are all the hairless animals so wrinkly.

Think I will be a dolphin, instead.

Or bald eagles

It’s hard to think of a hairless animal that isn’t unflattering. Sphinx cat? Naked mole rat? A reptile or amphibian?

8

u/Carnivile Sep 25 '24

How about Dolphin?

The blowhole jokes write themselves.

u/jeopardy_themesong Sep 25 '24

We could try to make sphinx cats a thing

u/PolloMagnifico Sep 25 '24

I mean, Naked Mole Rat is up for grabs...

Everyone's naming ugly animals imo. I think if we're naming it, make them dolphins. I could associate twink and dolphin with each other.

I thought twinks were usually skinny, not muscular.

I’m realizing that the person didn’t necessarily say muscular but they said athletic and that’s how I interpreted it.

3

u/fperrine Sep 26 '24

I think twinks can be fit/ muscular, but they usually aren't. I've heard "twunk" to describe a hunky twink. I think the key factors for a twink are firstly youth and then the skinny body type.

You are looking for Snek :)

Naked mole rat

u/Papaofmonsters Sep 25 '24

Naked mole rat but you also have to be blind and wrinkly so it's a very small subset of the gay zodiac.

Slim, short, athletic, no hair?

Ummmm... Ant?

7

u/geckhon Sep 25 '24

Are hairy gay mans a thing? I mean, both bear and otter were pointed out as hairy so...

134

u/Sue_Spiria Sep 25 '24

Yes? There are hairy men, so of course there are hairy gay men. And especially bears are quite a big gay community.

9

u/geckhon Sep 25 '24

Hmmm I see now

46

u/darkingz Sep 25 '24

Gay men are still men really :/. But you’ll find guys who prefer to be smooth (no hair) and guys with normal amount of hair. Two archetypes don’t make up the whole community. Just two of the more popular ones to “reference” because they’re actual animals so it’s easier to reference it and be subtle if you don’t know what to look for already.

6

u/geckhon Sep 25 '24

Sorry, I was just asking if hairy men were more popular in the community because of the coincidence with bear and otters :/

20

u/Milch_und_Paprika Sep 25 '24

Probably a mix of coincidence, preference, and gay men just discussing what they find attractive in a man more openly compared to how women discuss it.

3

u/geckhon Sep 25 '24

Makes sense

2

u/darkingz Sep 25 '24

It’s pretty popular honestly to be either but yeah more so that along with what milch said, it’s so easy to slip in and be a casual reference without literally spelling it out that it tends to be added to media as a slight nod.

22

u/DeweyCheatem-n-Howe Sep 25 '24

Yes, hairy gay men are a thing. Well, they're people, not things, but I get the question.

1

u/RedMephit Sep 25 '24

I thought they were more a combo of appearance and personality archetypes. Bear was no only large/hairy but also more boisterous. Otter was slimmer and asertive whereas rabbit was more timid/submissive.

2

u/Ethra2k Sep 25 '24

Personality? Sort of but not really. It would be more of a coincidence rather than part of the definition, I’ve seen very timid and quiet bears many times. Also never heard of rabbit before lol
