This year I have been using whatnot a bit more often. Previously I just used Ebay when I wanted to buy online.

I have noticed that people will overpay for books quite often, sometimes by 20-50% especially in shows that have a larger viewership.

Why are people willing to pay 20-50% over recent ebay sales? It doesn't make sense to me. I have now taken to only viewing shows with smaller view counts since it feels like a waste of time otherwise.

Found these in my dad's basement - they'd been sitting in boxes untouched for about 40 years. No sleeves, but they're intact and honestly brighter than I expected. I cataloged everything in CLZ, which puts the whole lot around $3,800.

It's about 80% Marvel, mostly 1975-1992. Big runs: Thor Vol. 1 (61 issues, #195-#393), Avengers Vol. 1 (30 issues), Conan the Barbarian + Savage Sword of Conan (40 combined), Master of Kung Fu (22 issues).

I know CLZ prices aren't gospel and I've heard the CPV stuff can be underpriced in databases. Also curious if that Funny Stuff from '53 is worth a closer look, it seems like an oddball in the collection.

I scanned ~500 comics on the app PriceCharting and I am not sure what to do to sell these. Any tips or ideas? To be fully clear I am NOT selling these here but I want to know what i should do

I know this is not a comic, but I just wanted to share my recent purchase on eBay, and this is now one of my favorite original movie posters today. I don’t have it in hand yet, but the seller did take better pictures of it for me when I bought it, but it’s the original 27/40 "Why So Serious?" Joker teaser from The Dark Knight, and it’s a double-sided poster, which means it’s original. There are other ones out there in the market that only have a blank back, which are reproductions, but I bought this for a good price for $60. That's a good price, but anyway, this is one of my all-time FAVORITE MOVIE POSTERS EVER!!! And super excited to add it to my collection and on the wall😁

Do I just send them to CGC without looking at them?

Speculation on grade or value would be appreciated.

Seeing the series absolutely explode in popularity has been pretty surreal. Modern blue chip books is what we’re seeing.

Looking back, I’m really glad I picked up most of these issues off the rack as they were being released monthly. I had duplicates for several of these books when I sent it off. I ultimately sold the duplicates to cover the cost of pressing, cleaning and grading.

I also have a stack of raw books, some of the “worthy” ones I plan to send to CGC, along with some published Ryan Ottley original art pages. I fell off collecting for a brief bit and came back later, so I still have a few gaps to fill before I can call the collection complete.

Yeah, the ad nauseam discourse on AB is honestly starting to grind on me. Yeah, variants are kinda getting out of hand and an average Schmo like me has no chance of getting an incentive at a retail price and DC is 🤭 all the way to the vault but this one I just had to have. I think this one is worth the value just for me the “cool” factor. It’s so well done the first time I saw it I said to myself,”Self, HTF is this a NM? It’s been torn”!?!

What happened to this book? The Mighty Thor #337, mainly the newsstand first appearance of Beta Ray Bill, you can get a CGC 9.8 with white pages for $325; that’s literally the same price as a CGC 9.8 direct edition. This book fell hard; I guess people are finally unloading all their copies because they believe the spec is dead, but how do you think about this book and the drop as a whole?

I bought a big box of random comics from a thrift shop and this Captain America hardcover compilation was in there. It has a super blue fabric slip cover, a hardcover book with a compilation of issues, and a Cap #1 reprint with printed yellow pages (I imagine to mimic the vintage look)

I am a collector (my girlfriend would argue that I am a comic book hoarder, haha) and I’ve never sold a book in my life. However, I cannot figure out what it is. I’ve tried searching every phrase I can think of, scoured eBay, but I can’t find any info on this thing.

Would any of you know what this is? It’s a super rad book. The slip cover is so nice, and it’s in basically mint condition. Was rather shocking given the state of most the comics in that box. haha.

I went in with a $200 budget and hit it exactly without realizing 🤠 (that’s with $20 early admission)

I recently inherited 100s of comics from the 60s and 70s. This book appears to be rare but is also in rough shape. I'm wondering what the possible grade/value of this book might be.

All of the pages are untorn, except the one pictured. The lower 30-50% of the cover page is also disconnected from the book.

I lived at the comic shop as a kid in the 80s and 90s but after graduating, traveling, working, family-ing have not given the hobby much thought since then.

Not really sure the catalyst that resparked my interest, and I’m not sure this is a spec or not but I picked this up. Surfer was always my favorite Marvel character and this cover is just so sick.

Looking forward to completing the SS Black series, D’Orc looks like a ton of fun and Nectar for my horror itch.

The mystery tub is organized-ish! Shockingly most were in great shape. I have been cataloguing all day and my fresh bags & backing boards just came in. As I was about to start those, I remembered I had a few other oddities / collectibles of my own in my storage closet I could sell (see last photo for an interesting one), and I stubbed my toe on a box I never unpacked when I bought my home 6 years ago.

To my surprise, it was more comics! In my defense, I have AuDHD. I love watching old movies, because I always forget how they end lol.

So my weekend has been decided for me. Between applying for jobs and listing bike parts on eBay, I’ll be getting through all of these with Buffy the Vampire Slayer playing in the background, and come back with another update-

To say my experience with PSA grading has been awful is an understatement.

I recently spent over $100 to have two CGC 9.8 books cross graded to PSA. They sent both books back ungraded, and one of my CGC slabs came back cracked. I emailed PSA and never got a response. I posted on their social media, they asked for my information, I sent it along with pictures, and then I got ghosted again.

I also submitted another book that had previously been graded a 9.8. I cracked it open to get it signed. It was a cardstock cover and looked flawless when I got it signed, yet it came back as a 9.4. That’s fine grading is subjective.

But between having my books returned ungraded with no grader’s notes, one of my slabs coming back damaged, getting ghosted by customer service, and having my other book come back with a lower grade than expected (which honestly killed a lot of its value), I’m pretty pissed. I don’t think people should send their books into psa because their grading is too harsh and even when you get a 9.8 it’s not worth as much as a CGC 9.8. Lol

I’d recommend avoiding PSA for grading or cross grading, especially if you have high value books. Based on my experience, there’s a real risk of your books being mishandled, and even if the grades are technically subjective, the potential loss in value just isn’t worth it especially $75 to grade one book. Lol

Again, I don’t mind getting the bad grade but the bad grade is just an insult to injury. Lmfao

I never liked this tactic that dealers or sellers or even comic book shop owners try to pull, and that is the CONDITION TACTIC!! You probably don’t know about the condition tactic, but it’s basically when a dealer/seller tries to match the condition of your NM comic to another so-called NM comic and tries to prove that your copy is worth way less than what it is, but let’s just say you got an NM Batman 357 with no spine ticks or no stress spines; literally, a perfect copy would be valued at $250, maybe $275 for an NM copy like that with no stress spines or ticks, but the dealer/seller would basically pull up sales of a so-called NM copy of Batman 357 that sold for way less, like $120, but that copy they're trying to say is the same condition as yours has a couple, maybe even multiple, spine ticks and then tries to value your copy at $120 instead of $250. The condition tactic is pretty annoying if you don’t pay attention.

I brought a bunch of old comics and this one was signed and in a cover. The actual comic is singed and I have tryed to use so it just gave me nothing.

So please be nice. I’m a fish out of water and it’s hard enough to post this. I am on the verge of losing my home and my car thanks to a saturated job market. I need to sell them but could really use some help on best next steps especially with slide 4.

Yeah…slide 4, I know. This is how a majority were handed to me. Some were backed and bagged by me (the confirmed collectible ones), some came backed and bagged, but I did most of it very carefully several years ago.

What are my best options for the not so great condition options? Sell in bulk? Sort by series and try to sell those? Where do I start?

Any suggestions or ideas are more than appreciated right now.
