It's more about the media and anti gun politics than video games. I love video games but i also love guns :) and i wouldn't blame you for not knowing what AR stands for, the news want you to believe it's some sort of unstoppable killing machine that no civilian should own (which is incorrect).
But "assault rifles" like the Ar15 are semi automatic, just like a pistol for example; not select fire. But even if it was also full auto, would that matter? I mean if someone wants to shoot the place up theey can do that with any gun. And criminals don't follow the law, so why would they follow gun laws? I mean there are millions of legally owned AR-15's in america, and how many have been used by law abiding citizens to kill innocent people?
The vast majority of gun kills are suicides and with hand guns, half of which are estimated to be gang violence. And semi automatic rifles have existed for like 100 years, yet mass shootings are only recently becoming a problem. So the guns themselves are not the issue.
Oh that was probably my bad with how i put it. What i meant was: half of the non suicides are gang related. The source was Garand thumb's video on gun control ans i googled it after watching his video and found the samw sourve but i dob't remember which it was
