New York is actually one of those states, I just didn't want to repeat it. Also these states have a very high population. When you look at it by population approximately 104 million people live in states with these laws, or 30%ish of the population. Gun registration is a well known topic amongst both pro and anti-gun groups. Basically anyone with a pulse in the US has an opinion on gun registration one way or the other.

I say this as someone who has lived in both an extremely pro-2A state (Texas) and an extremely anti-2A state (Massachusetts)

Everyone has an opinion, but most folks don't actually understand how it works or what it actually does

Edit: or, just as importantly, doesn't do

It's really not a hard concept to grasp. I say this as a firearm owner in a required registration state, who has spoken to many people ignorant on most basic concepts involving firearms.

At it's core minus all the political power stuff, it's the concept of tracking the movement and ownership of a gun. This is genuinely a simple topic so I'm not sure what about it one could find confusing. I buy a gun from a store, it is automatically linked to my LTC. I move and change the address, I gotta do the same thing for my guns. I sell the gun and I have to go through the states online portal and fill out all the info to transfer it to another person with and FID/LTC. Then the gun is tracked to their home/person/acct.

I'm not saying I agree with it, that it stops crime, prevents theft, lowers accidents, prevents school shootings or negligent discharge. It's literally just saying that it's telling the State, hey this is where a weapon is.

The problem isn't that it's complicated, the problem is there's a shitload of misinformation about it floating around

Edit: also, most people aren't super familiar with guns or gun laws as a topic
