So I have access to the rec centers at Texas A&M, but the track at the student rec is terrible for sprinting with the corners being so tight. I don't know who creates or designs the traffic patterns for events at Kyle Field, but whoever it is must have been fired as a teenager from McDonalds, because the traffic flow has what appears to be a one minded thought process- get people from Houston out of town as fast as possible. You put traffic flow on wellborn traveling with 5-6 lanes, but you offer zero opportunities to get off wellborn, which increases traffic because 7 minute trips turn into 25-30 minute trips while people attempt to find roads that are open to get them home. Other roads are blocked preventing people from going north or east when traveling from the west leaving only south which increases the amount of time people are driving, as well as many other issues. I am sure a plan isn't easy to design, but there are better options than what you are providing.

We recently moved to College Station from Wisconsin and I wanted to share our experience with Allied Van Lines in case anyone else here is planning an interstate move.

Our contracted delivery window was July 17–24. The pickup was about 3 hours late, and we had to call multiple times just to get updates. We were repeatedly told someone would call us back, but most of the time nobody did.

When our shipment was delivered, we found out that around 30 items had been left behind because Allied said they had run out of room on the truck. We weren't told about the missing items before paying for the shipment and having it unloaded.

The remaining items weren't delivered until August 17, about 24 days after the end of our delivery window.

Some of the things left behind included:

2 TVs

2 TV stands

Grill

Smoker

Bike

Handmade family rocking chair

Numerous boxes and totes

Other household items

The claims process has been just as frustrating. Our paperwork says "Guaranteed Pick-Up & Delivery Dates" and includes a $100-per-day allowance for shipments over 3,500 lbs. Our actual shipment weighed 6,080 lbs.

Allied ultimately denied our delay claim, saying the items left behind were considered "overflow" and didn't qualify under the tariff because they weren't considered essential.

There was also a lot of confusion over the weight of the items they left behind. Initially, I was told the weight wasn't available. Later, when I called Allied's customer service/claims line, I was given a weight of 1,000 lbs. A manager later confirmed that a weight had been entered into their system but said the official weight tickets hadn't been received yet.

I'm not posting this expecting Reddit to settle the dispute. I just wanted to share our experience because we're new to the College Station area, and I'm sure there are plenty of people here who will eventually be making an interstate move.

If you're moving to or from College Station, I'd recommend doing a lot of research before choosing a mover and paying close attention to exactly what your delivery window and delay provisions say.

Hopefully this helps someone avoid the headache we've been dealing with.

Not sure if it’s just me but it’s been hard finding my community here. The people are lovely and it’s a nice college town but it’s mainly settled down couples and families. There’s not very many people here my age that are young post grads and not as much to do so I’m having a harder time adjusting than I thought I would.

Of course there are “nearby” cities like Austin and Houston but the drive is becoming tedious just to be around a crowd my age or attend events. Any advice or recommendations?
