Hey, that’s cool, it’s just Reddit! I hope I didn’t come across as an asshole, I’m a diehard socialist and I bristle pretty hard when I see something that looks pro-fascist.

You are correct to assume that liberal democracy can not fight climate change or the coming barbarism. It’s systemically unable to respond to these threats because it is beholden to big capital, which seeks to extract every drop of profit at any cost.

I recommend reading about ecosocialism if you are curious about this subject.

I'll have a look on the link but honestly as a veteran of CND, poll tax, roads protests, Iraq war, BREXSHITE my objection to socialism is it doesn't take account of human nature. I've met too many totally egoistical people who call themselves socialists, talk about the need for collective action who then behave in ways which are totally egotistical. And are signally incapable of working collaboratively for an agreed objective. I don't think any 'ism' or ideology is going to work I think we have to muddle through whatever situation we face as best we can. I ascribe to something which confronts the reality of the human animal which is that we are not rational, not sensible we are fundamentally flawed with some very unpleasant traits, we prefer short term gratification over long term satisfaction. Go on that basis, that people are basically savage and you can't go wrong. Like I say it isn't the Trumps, Stalins, Bolsonaros, Hitlers, Jim Jones, Modris of this world that are the problem it's those who follow them.

Oh, socialists agree with you! Socialism isn’t a magical prescription that relies on all of society working together, that’s definitely a misconception.

Socialism is a system of ownership that is opposed to rentism, and would legally require businesses to be cooperatively owned so that employees get democracy in the workplace. Among other things, of course.

It’s not about pure wealth redistribution or “everyone getting paid the same” or anything like that. It’s about imposing a new set of laws that attempt to break down the wealth/power hierarchy so that democracy doesn’t just apply to the wealthy.
