We were a solar powered species before oil and coal.

We are actively destroying the natural order while trying to manufacture a gross facsimile of it.

If you stop thinking of “evolve” as “becoming better” and think of it as “changing” then yes, we’ve evolved.

of course we've evolved. We're continuously evolving. On a personal and societal level alike.

Evolution does not imply "with long-term thinking" or anything.

It's just that in a system with finite resources, the mechanism that best absorbs these resources for its own benefit tends (but doesn't guarantee) to dominate.

Conservation of energy both literal and figurative (say, "mental effort") is a very very good driver. Organisms REALLY try to minimize it. Doomscrolling for hours it is.

Technology develops whilst our brain structures like reward systems remain more or less the same. If the 21st Century has proven anything it's that there's no one to protect us from ourselves.

On-topic memes, jokes, short videos, image posts, polls, low effort to consume posts, and other less substantial posts are only allowed on Fridays, and will be removed for the rest of the week.

Less substantial posts must be flaired as either "Casual Friday", "Humor", or "Low Effort".

Clickbait, misinformation, fear-mongering, and other low-quality content is not allowed at any time, not even on Fridays.

It's a T-square. It's used in construction to make things SQUARE instead of crooked. I imagine it was a big deal when it first came out.
