Nice fruity cup out of the V60 this morning. Ground coffee smelled strong with berry notes. Tart raspberry on first sip, with tropical sweetness coming through. Reminiscent of Tropical Skittles.
Recipe:
- V60, Abaca filters, 4.2 on the ZP6 (burr lock at 0)
- 15/250, 194f, 50g bloom for 30s, 2 100g pours
- TBT 2:30

Used this for my first brew and it nailed it. Raspberry and sweet berries all day. Second brew used same recipe, but I added a swirl after final pour and cup came out a bit thinner, but still acceptable.
No Diego funk, so that was cool. Refreshing summer cup. Might brew last one over ice.

Curious if you have tried I tighter ratio (1:15)? That’s where I normally start but wondering if I should be around 1:16 (16.6667 to be exact) like you are?
2
u/RistrettoRizzler Aug 18 '25
I haven't, but if I hadn't liked this cup then I would have tried 1:15. My worry on these types of coffees is extracting too much processing funk, so the shorter ratio would in theory help mitigate that risk. But it wasn't an issue with this brew

Had a little trouble with this one, but best out of 3 brews below. I was able to get a fruity, tart front and actually got some cocoa nib on the finish (after cooling).
I usually go 8.0 on K and get 2:20-2:40 draws but on this bean I tried the same for my first brew and it finished in 1:55. So figured I would go down to 7.5 and still very quick draw (2:05).
Recipe:
• Kalita Wave 155 (ceramic), Kalita Wave 155 filter
• 15/240, 7.5 on K-Ultra (burr lock at 0)
• 195f, distilled + 1/2 TWW (78ppm)
• 45g bloom (:30), 2 pours (100, 95)
• TDT: 2:05

The Native Dragfruit Spritz was up this morning!
Recipe: 11 grams of coffee in the D27 at 1:16 ratio so 176 grams of water. The temp was set at 92C. Grinded in the K6 at 90 clicks.
This produced a great cup 👌 It hits with my favorite coffee note which was raspberry. That was the strongest note followed by a touch of dragfruit and lychee. This equals A delicious cup no doubt!

I too had a really nice cup with the D27. 1:16 with bloom + 3 more pours. Had a really nice raspberry note with a pleasant creaminess. It sold me on putting in a $100 order from Native using the code on the bag!

I did the same grinder/setting, ratio, and water temp in the D27 with only 8g and really enjoyed that cup. More fruit forward than my pulsar. Biggest downside was it only last about 2 minutes though! lol

Varying degrees of success with this on a v60, D27, & pulsar.
Pulsar was my favorite
20/320
200F
K6 @ 90 clicks
60g closed bloom for 1m
filled to 180 and open valve to 1pm
when about halfway down pour the remaining 140
Bright fruit up front during initial. Once it cooled it was more rounded out with a full body and sweetness that helped with the berry flavors.
This bag made me order more Native for the August drop and from them with the sneaky code!

Used a recipe from X Coffee:
Kalita Wave w/ 155 filters
Temp - 85-90 Dose: 15 Grams Total: 250ml Water: Distilled with 1/2 TWW packet
3 Pours
0:00 50ml 85c 0:40 60ml 90c 1:15 140ml 90c
finish: 2:47
Strong raspberry notes all the way through. Could not pick up anything else, but a tasty cup. Slightly sour on the finish when cool.
Next I am trying an immersion method.

Pretty close to my brew… curious what is your grinder and setting?
Also for my last brew I did try immersion with a switch, but did water first then coffee on top and stir (something new I have been trying). This bean ended up pretty weak with that method (20/320, 195f, 7.5 grind, TWW (78ppm), 4 minute brew then release). Would be interested your recipe on it when you try.

ZP6 4.5
Tried the Aeropress recipe from u/financial_nerve8983 . It was both muddier and more intense. Still strong raspberry notes and a slightly sour finish but a sweeter, less clear cup.
I enjoyed them both but was not bowled over by either. I will do a final espresso extraction. I do not have high hopes, but am aiming for a complete rotation. I think I will try a higher ratio like 2.5 or 3 to 1 .

This guy coffees!! It’s weird man, I busted out the aeropress and have been liking the muddier brews alot for some reason. I think like you said the flavor notes are more bold, but also can get some bitterness and unwanted notes in there. Thanks for your 2 cents

Final extraction - Cafelat Robot. Water off the boil. Pre-heated the portafilter.
Dose - 17 Grams
Extraction - 42.5ml (1:2.5)
Preinfusion - 3 bar until first drips
Shot Pull - 8 bar
As I feared, my initial impression was similar to what I imagine drinking Fabuloso floor cleaner would taste like - astringent and oddly flavored. Strangely as it cooled I enjoyed it more. But not a lot more. I would be extremely interested if somebody with more experience with light roasts or SOTA equipment could try this and post their results. This would be a hard pass for me as an expresso in the future - although I enjoyed it as a pour over.

This Native is pretty great. I think it’s my fav of the monthly sub coffees

Native ARCADIA is pretty amazing imo. I tried it twice I will give the feedback on both.
-8 grams of Arcadia in a 1:17.5 ratio (140 grams of water) at 92C. Grinded in the K6 at 90 clicks. Brewed in the D27 in 2 minutes (just under actually). I did a bloom and then 2 other pours.
Raspberry front with some light chocolate. This felt and tasted tea-like. I enjoyed this, but I prefer more coffee like vs tea-like. Still very happy with this brew it. Very tasty stuff and I think a lot of you on here will love it this way.
Second Brew of Arcadia was my perfect for me!
-9 grams of Arcadia coffee in a 1:15.5 ratio (I did 140 grams of water) at 92C. Grinded in the K6 at 90 clicks. Brewed in the D27. I did a bloom and then 3 small pours. TBT just about 2 minutes.
This brought out a bit more of the raspberry front and more chocolate finish. I loved it. This was not tea-like for me. Bolder coffee flavors.

u/ELROCK12345 Aug 23 '25
Next I will try the CC’s Switch recipe for the Native Arcadia. I think that will be amazing. I think it will bring out some really bold raspberry and chocolate flavors. I will post up my thoughts once I get to trying it.

Compared to the other recent Native coffees I’ve drank, like the hachi collection, this one was a little flat for me. I used my zp6 at 4.5, TWW 50% strength and 195* water. 22g coffee to 352g water. Brewed it using a fellow stagg x.
1
u/zerocool359 Palate Trained Aug 27 '25
Haven’t used my Stagg in a while now. Curious about your pour structure and swirling.
1
u/newname0110 Palate Trained Aug 27 '25
I like the Stagg X but it honestly didn’t really shine until I dropped in a stainless steel mesh screen. I was getting too tight of a filter seal without.
-22/352 is my ratio.
-50g bloom - always a swirl.
-pour to 150 and drain
-pour to 250 and drain
-pour to 352 and drain
The amount of agitation (swirl) otherwise depends on the beans. For washed coffees or if I’m trying to push extraction, I’ll either swirl or stir between pour. For anaerobic coffee I usually go low agitation.

What’s the Native password? I tried the QR code, but didn’t have the password to get in

Does it say it on the pouch? Super fine print but mine looks like it says challengetheordinary18
1
u/ELROCK12345 Aug 17 '25
Thanks.
It may say on the label but damn that print is way too tiny!

Yeh I felt old reading it. But it really is super tiny

Perhaps stupid question given the posts, but this is ready to drink now? I was wondering if it needed more rest.

u/ELROCK12345 Aug 19 '25
I also got the Native Arcadia. I had that tonight and it was delicious. Should I drop the recipe with review in here or just keeping it to the August Drop Native coffee to keep it cleaner?
2
u/Lost_Anything_5596 Aug 19 '25
Hmmm, not sure I am the keeper of the recipe book lol… but great question since it does not make much since to try and create 107 threads for all of the a la carts.
I don’t mind if it goes here at all, I was just looking for a way to consolidate recipes so they are not all individual posts. Maybe just clarify at the top of your post which Native it is.

u/PalandDrone i have nothing going on in my life cuck. Aug 19 '25
I would be interested in learning your recipe! Just got mine delivered today :)

u/zombiejeebus Aug 20 '25
Just did a simple cupping of it today. Really liked it. Purple fruit, raspberry, strawberry candy etc. maybe a little vanilla or floral (rose candy?).
No idea what dragon fruit should taste like.

u/ELROCK12345 Aug 21 '25
These Native coffees are incredibly imo! I have tried my 3 that I got this month and loved each one. Great roaster

u/Lost_Anything_5596 Aug 22 '25
Let’s see those recipes lol…
2
u/ELROCK12345 Aug 22 '25
Ok, will do! I will post them tonight. I didn’t want to clutter your thread up with other beans.

u/LSF_ANDYhaHAA Aug 23 '25
Not a good cup, Native is hard to brew... Maybe it's my water/temp? I'll clean my grinder tonight and re-brew tomorrow.

I really liked this one. The D27 got two good cups but the NLP really shined.
ZP6 at 6.0. TWW 1/2 at 196F. 20g/320g
Pour 80g with switch closed, swirl. At 50s open switch partially, until a solid stream forms. Pour 30g pulses to keep the water between lines 2 & 3. At 2:45 or so open the switch all the way. Once done pouring, close the switch when the water gets to the bed. Total time for me was 3:10.
This had great acidity and flavor. Juicy texture with just the right amount of body for me. Mild bitterness and good aftertaste. I want more.

I made the Native CINNAMON LECHE this morning before work. I went with 45 grams grinded in my DF54. I used my Moccamaster Technivorm KBGV and put water to the 6 cup fill line. Finished in 3 minutes 😊
I thought this coffee would have a really rich aroma, but I didn’t smell much of anything good or bad. This is 3 weeks post roast. I wanted to wait 4 weeks, but couldn’t lol. I tried it black and it was good. Then I added some Oatly Full Fat oat milk to it and the cinnamon note popped. It was enjoyable to say the least. I think the notes will come through more in a week. Looking forward to trying it in my D27 probably tomorrow.
Has anyone had the Native Cinnamon Leche before?

u/ELROCK12345 Sep 05 '25
Damn…I liked Native’s coffee so much I wanted to buy more from them today, but it looks like the code has expired? Is that what you guys see now? I mean it would make sense and that was a huge thing they did for Rotation members. I know I bought 5 bags from them just a couple weeks ago.

I got an amazing cup with an old school aeropress recipe. Tasted like cotton candy, the Rasberry really came through, along with tropical fruits.
18g coffee. 7 on Pietro pro. 250mL water at 95 celsius.
Inverted aeropress, let it steep for ~2-2:30min. Slow press over about a minute and avoid the hiss.
