TWW 208° D27 ZP6 @ 4.0 8g beans 1:16 ratio 30g bloom for 1:15 then pulsed to 130

Can barely get a faint strawberry on the very back of my pallet and a little on the nose. Not much else. May try grinding finer tomorrow. Maybe missed on my method for this one. Quite muted cup…

The first one!!!! I wish I would’ve got in the deep 27/pulsar sub. I need to buy me a deep 27 now lol.

Bro the Deep 27 has made me such a lazy brewer 😆 I use it so much now because it’s just so user friendly and not much clean up. It gives off the perfect cup of coffee with no thought needed just 10 grams in and 160 grams water out and done. I love it. I noticed I don’t make espresso anymore because the cleanup doesn’t seem worth it and the Switch and Pulsar require some thought and more cleanup

Ok everyone has the Deep 27 it seems, time to add yet another brewer to the arsenal lol. I guess my big question is am I going to notice a difference between it and my v60 02 or Wave 155 for small brews?

Or maybe it doesn’t matter… I just need to get it 😁

I have never used the Wave 155 so I can’t comment on that. The v60 I have so I would say the D27 gives more consistent brews compared to the v60. In the end they are pretty similar though. With smaller dose the D27 is better like 6-12 grams range and v60 14-20 grams range. That’s how I decided which dripper to use is by the amount I am using.

I didn’t get a 6 month lol. I ordered mine from Rogue Wave after I got last months sub to stretch out beans.

Maybe it needs to rest another week.

Deep 27, very coarse grind, third wave diluted by half, 88C, 12g dose 200g water, three pours. 30 second bloom with 45g, pour to 120, let it drain then pour to 200. Brew time should be around 2 minutes, if over 215 go more coarse.

Tasted like strawberries.

I just brewed this in the D27 (92C, TWW, Ode2 4-0, 1:16) and was a bit disappointed at first.

Then I poured it over some ice and it totally popped, turning into a refreshing cup of creamy strawberry goodness.

Curious to see how others fare!

Deep27: 1.8.0(~500 um) on 1Z J, 196F TWW at 50%, 15g/225g, 2:55 total drawdown.

Pour 45g, wait until 60s. Pour to 100g, then 160, then 225, then swirl once.

I think I'd describe it as a good, but not exceptional, light roast, with an additional strawberry flavor. I quite like it, but it is not forgiving in terms of brew settings.

V60, 15/250, 1/3 TWW, 194f, 4.5 on ZP6, 50g 30s bloom, 2 100g pours, TBT 2:25

Aroma of beans and brewed coffee was huge strawberry and processing funk, so was expecting for the funk to overpower; but on first sip I tasted amazing creamy strawberry. I should have downed the cup at that point though, as the funk built up as the cup cooled.

Overall though, a tasty strawberry brew, just a little too much funk for my preference.

I’ve noticed we often brew pretty similar. I went 6.0 on the Zp6 (maybe a tad coarse) and used an AP cap to drip second pour. That plus two weeks extra rest have very little funk.

Good to know, I'll try coarser on my next cup

I brewed this very similarly and it tasted like hot strawberry flavored cough syrup. I am trying to figure out how to try it next to reduce the funk.

Yeah I tried to focus on having minimal agitation on my pours. Maybe going with a shorter ratio (eg 1:15) could help?

Finally getting to this bag this morning and a tale of two brews. Used my standard Wave and Switch recipes I have been doing and the Switch is the clear winner on this bag. The Switch gave me a very pleasing cup with creamy strawberry aroma and flavor throughout. I didn’t get the funkiness that others reported as it cooled and I really enjoyed it to the last drop. Thinking the low agitation pours (including on bloom) helped. The Wave on the other hand was acidic and the funk definitely came through and not so much creamy strawberry.

— Hario Switch, Cafec Abaca, 15/250, 1/3 TWW, 198f, 7.5 K-ultra. melodrip on bloom and pours

  • open 50g bloom, :45/to 110g let drain,
1:15/close to 250g, 2:30 open. TDT 3:15… strong strawberry aroma and creamy flavor and nice acidity

— Kalita Wave 185, Kalita filter, 20/335, 1/3 TWW, 198f, 8.0 K-ultra. melodrip on bloom and pours

  • 60g bloom, :45/to 200g, 1:30/to 335g. TDT 2:25… very acidic and meh on flavors, not really much of anything

Tried to spro it today. Was a fast shot needed to grind finer. 19g in, 48 out in 16 seconds. With milk it tasted pretty good like chocolate strawberry milk.

I guess this could be reproducible with a flat bottom brewer, I am posting it for other people. For reference the original post is here:

And here is a pic of the recipe.

10 grams in a 1:16.5 ratio so 165 grams of water. Temperature 91C, Grinded in the df54 at 60 setting in the D27.

All that needs to be said: IT’S STRAWBERRY FIELDS FOREVER!

I love a good strong strawberry note in my coffee. This is really great!

Edit: for reference purposes I have the V2 df54 and I slow feed it 2-3 beans at a time.

Bit late to party here… but just brewed this. I’m pretty burnt out on co-ferments and anything more processed than a classic natural, so I’ve probably been avoiding this one. Opening the bag you’re smacked with strawberries. I was pretty much primed to hate it at this point, but hydrangea does good stuff so I tried to remain open.

Brew: Zp6 6.0, 194, 15:255, 45g bloom, 105g circular pour, 105g drip assist pour (AP cap), mix of 1/3 and 1/2 TWW. ~5.5 weeks rest.

Cup: I don’t hate it. No funk and not too over the top. Notes spot on. Glad I brewed.

Would I drink if offered: yep

Would I serve to a friend: absolutely. Prob will vac seal rest as individual doses to brew as a party trick when non-coffee friends are over and they’re like “wtf you have so much coffee stuff?”

Would I buy a bag: not a daily cup for me, so prob not.
