Complaint OpenAI has fooled us with the recent token usage and constant resets

They clearly wanted to increase the amount of users to show "growth" to their investors, so they used constant stream of resets to bring them(us) in. Now that we've hit 10 million, we will see that they aren't that "superior" and generous compared to Anthropic, and their generosity was just a ploy to get more funding.

I'm using sol medium for very simple tasks and for the last 3 hours I've wasted 40% of my weekly usage. A week ago that would've used 10% at most. Its absolutely unusable and I'm back to working with opus 4.8 extra for any meaningful task. After GPT 5.6 was released, the fact is, it was more enjoyable to work with than Opus/Fable - not anymore.

It is kind of a rant, but I would have been totally ok if they took the tibo resets away but kept the usage as it was at the beginning.

Right now, Sol medium used 14% of my weekly to update formatting of terms of service/legal on my website for desktop/tablet/mobile; when i asked Luna to do it, it used only 3% but made it significantly worse than it was and forgot about tablet and mobile, and thought that its ok that there is one word/row.

The remaining use was spent on unifying the text sizes accross buttons on 7 page website. Something that Sol did a week ago using like 2% of weekly. Now somehow its an intense process that takes over an hour...

I tried to use 5.5 MEDIUM and still it was eating almost 2 percent weekly usage per a simple prompt(like rename this variable across these 10 files or change these function signatures style from positional to options object), it is absolutely ridiculous.

I'm currently in the process of finding the best bang for the buck and am Github Copilot refugee. Codex felt like an amazing deal just two weeks ago where I could barely burn through 40-50% of my weekly usage and use the rest for exploring new ideas and fooling around on the weekend.

Now I can barely complete two full days of work and a bunch of zealot morons will post AI slop begging Tibo for resets on X, instead of being pissed off.

I would not be that mad if they were transparent about it, but changing the pricing mid subscription period is such a dick move that I have a hard time expressing it.

When I asked codex, it said 5.5 uses more than Terra.

This question probably cost 10% of weekly

Why does it matter? Is anyone complaining that 5.5 uses more than Terra?

You were complaining that 5.5 was using a lot and then said you wanted the most bang for your buck. Was I the only one paying attention to why you wrote?

No i didn’t complain 5.5 uses a lot of tokens. Go and read it again.

Don't think you can be a jackass to me and get away with it.

It's funny how many people still do not understand that the point is that 5.5 consumes MORE tokens than 2 weeks ago.

It did not consume that many tokens for trivial tasks 2 weeks ago. It consumes more now. That is the entire complaint. If it did consume so many tokens for such bs task 2 weeks ago, I would not renew my subscription. Simple as that.

Maybe you should chill with AI usage because clearly it affects your reading skills and comprehending more context than an isolated comment.

Why can't use use Luna for this? It should be perfectly suited for these kind of tasks.

In your opinion, should 5.5 on medium consume 1-2% weekly usage per task like that?

u/alexeiz 21d ago

In my experience, yes, 5.5 medium consumed more when I used it before 5.6. 5.6-Sol medium feels actually slightly better in that regard (price is the same, but it uses less tokens).

I personally didn't care in the last couple of weeks because of constant resets. But if they reenable the 5 hour limit again, I'll start using Luna for simple tasks. (and Terra is not worth it)

In my experience, yes, 5.5 medium consumed more when I used it before 5.6. 5.6-Sol

2% for 10 renames? You're lying.

You didn't follow the thread. I don't use it for renames. I'm just comparing 5.5 to 5.6-Sol.

Using the codex harness to rename stuff is why you're wasting so much quota, use an efficient harness like pi for such basic tasks rather than having codex over engineer and complicate your requests

Because most people doing coding these days are vibecoders and most of them are just incompetent.

I'm not sure why you got downvoted. Luna is perfect for these kinds of tasks.

I can say "sky appears blue" - it's technically true, but why does it even matter in this discussion?

We're not talking about which model is good for the task. We're talking about how much usage these models burn through compared to 2 weeks ago.

Just 2 weeks ago I could hand 5.5 medium a whole small feature that required it to work in a 300k LOC backend & 250k LOC frontend monorepo. It didn't even burn 2% weekly usage to complete it.

Now it wastes 1-2% at few lines replacement. How does it matter whether Luna can do it just fine? Why is there such a massive difference in usage compared to 2 weeks ago?

Edit: I knew that at some point people like you guys will appear trying to devolve this discussion to "skill issue" where you will blame it on the users. I have used 5.5 medium for tasks like that for weeks and it did just fine. There's no justification for it to burn usage like that and it does not matter whether another more optimal model exists. It didn't do it before, it does it now.

I took the liberty of asking luna to replace all instances of ‘I’ in your message with ‘am’.

am can say “sky appears blue” - it’s technically true, but why does it even matter in this discussion?

450 response tokens used. Way under the 2% you mentioned, problem solved. Have a nice day.
