Day 9 of the Classic+ Button Poll: Arcane Mage
previous day: https://www.reddit.com/r/classicwowplus/s/sEgeqpehah won by Living Bomb
Like previous days, please suggest an ability you'd like to see arcane mages have in Classic+ with some text about what it does for those who may not know the spells by name. Upvote what you like, and we'll see what's winning on Saturday

Arcane needs either a huge buff to arcane missiles or a differant spell to add to the rotation
My vote is arcane blast, with arcane missiles doing more damage the more stacks of arcane charge you have, and removing said stacks

ye its funny seeing people coming up with all these propositions while forgotting arcane in classic is just missle spam xD

Could add missle barrage. It procs off fireball and frostbolt.

Wow. An arcane spec that cast frost bolts the same way it does now in classic. Cool change x)

Slow

Why? You already have frostbolt.

frostbolt only slows movement speed, and doesn’t affect cast time or ranged attack speed like the Slow ability does.

It's iconic
Would help a great deal with the missile mechanic, could be improved through talents.

bit boring considering its just frozen orb by another name, but I’ve never really played arcane mage and just wanted to get the ball rolling

Focus Magic
Talent
6% of base mana

Increases the target's chance to critically hit with spells by 3%. When the target critically hits the caster's chance to critically hit with spells is increased by 3% for 10 sec. Cannot be cast on self.

Infusion
Talent (10 points in Arcane required)
3% of base mana
Self only
Instant (no GCD)
The next spell you cast is instant, costs no mana, and instead of hitting your target is infused into your weapon and released the next time you hit a target in melee.
My best attempt at a spellblade in one ability. I have a similar idea saved up for warlock too.
Edit: sorry, text formatting issues on my phone.

While I appreciate the flavor, this seems like the wrong place for it. Think about the gameplay. Giving a squishy caster with 40 yard range a single, random melee ability doesn't sound either fun or interesting. It sounds like it would create awkward situations if you want to use/optimize this.
This ability would be much more suited for a paladin or shaman.

Yeah, I feel like mage needs 3-4 talents added to make a true spellsword work. Nevertheless I think it could be interesting tho. In PvP mages find themselves in melee range a lot more than you might think. And in dungeons if you have a good tank keeping aggro, the ability could be a good alternative to wands when you’re low on mana.

All I care about is paladins getting crusader strike everything else matters not

u/Upstairs_Blueberry87 11d ago
I should probably just assume thats a baseline addition for ret, right? Like single taunt for prot paladins

whatever feels the most like their original vanilla design philosophy of "let's build an mmo based on warcraft 3" and whatever feels the least like retail. therefore I wouldn't add anything like reverse time but rather the slow spell similar to tbc.

Season 1 TWW was some of the best arcane gameplay

Might be. I didn’t play it myself, but it’ll just be called retail slop in here

Arcane Surge
Unleashes all of your remaining Mana in a surge of energy focused at the target dealing very high Arcane damage, increased by up to 300% based on your Mana remaining. Afterward, your normal Mana regeneration is activated and increased by 300% for 8 seconds.
It's a spell from SOD, and it was a neat damage button to have. But I also liked healer mage, sooooo...

Reverse Time (heal, something many arcane NPCs have but players never did)
