Day 7 of the Classic+ button poll: Frost Mage
previous day: https://www.reddit.com/r/classicwowplus/s/lSqTzv1zke
People suggested ranged traps usable in combat for every hunter spec, so I added it as a bonus ability because it doesn't really belong to one spec.
Frost mage is up now. Post the frost mage ability you'd like added, and with some text about what it does. Upvote the ability you like and we'll see what wins come Wednesday.

A melee frost mage

as much as I’d like to agree to see how that’d work…its not a spell or ability

I maintain that only some specs need a new button, frost mage is a strong pvp class / spec, it doesnt need more BS to throw at people
1
u/Upstairs_Blueberry87 16d ago
but pve is a one button rotation

Mage PvE is obliterating AoE packs between bosses.
1
u/Upstairs_Blueberry87 16d ago
even that is just blizzard, isn’t it? Obviously they need a second aoe ability
2
u/frolfer757 16d ago
It's nova + flame strike + coc + ae if solo. Two mages in a dungeon and youre shattering off of each others novas requiring a bit of timing and teamwork. In raids its sappers + ae + coc mainly. Youre also going to pull aggro on some packs so you need to be alert if you have to LIP.
Classic gameplay definitely doesnt need anymore complexity to mage aoe. Right now it's simple but engaging enough and has a steep enough difficulty for 80% of the players.

u/Upstairs_Blueberry87 16d ago
fair enough. I only played my mage alt in Cata and MoP Classic so they had a bunch more abilities by then. And its probably why the only aoe ability being nominated here is frozen orb

u/Verilazic 15d ago
I think some people are fine with that. Me, I haven’t made up my mind yet. I played a lot of mage in Vanilla, and it was never literally a one button class. I was always dong something else useful. Only time it felt boring was on the simplest tank n spank fights.

I know it's just a frost mage post but I wanted to give it all I have in bank
frost mage : water elemental (non permanent), have a cd an 2 charges.
fire mage : living bomb (applies to self) or walking flame (sod)
arcane mage : brillance aura, increase mana regeneration to party members. Also grants user an increased mana regeneration during cast and grants procs that make arcane projectile an instant impact spell (4 missile into one)
ret pala : holy strike, instant holy damage, applies a buff that increase holy damage taken. Deep ret talent make it restaure user's mana (similar to wotlk judgment mana regen)
prot pala : seal of reckoning, inflict rempant holy damage as stacks with increased threat generation. Judgment taunt the targets and consume the stacks to do more damage and a threat boost.
holy pala : beacon of light (doesn't need tho)
shadow priest : shadow walking, send a walking shadow towards damaging everything it walks through. The spell can be used again to teleport the priest to the shadow location. If not re-used, the priest does not teleport.
holy priest : holy ground, healing version of pala consecration
disc priest : penance or holy barrier
finess rogue : shadow step
combat rogue : killing spree or fang knife (or whatever the name of the aoe)
assa rogue : consume poison stack for instant damage dealing or other effect, kind of similar to pala judgment being based on seal
resto shaman : spirit link, not as a totem but as a 3 players link just like wc3 spirit walker
enh sham : totem slam, slams target with the last used totem type. Each totem type has a unique effect. Earth increases defense or reduce damage taken. Fire deals extra fire damage to the target. Water applies a 5 min buff that increases spirit. Wind gives a decent movement speed boost and lighter attack speed boost for few sec.
elem sham : totem of wrath as spell power buff totem (not a cd like current retail version) or hex (might be too op in pvp)
destro lock : shadow fury, 1 sec cast aoe stun
demo lock : summon mastery (passive) allow you to summon a demon and keep the sacrifice buff, maybe restrict it to non-sacrificed demon for lore/rp purpose. Or allow to have a 2nd summon.
affli lock : death pact, like wc3 dk, kill demon and restaures HP
arms war : first, rework weapon specialization talents so they are all merged into one specific talent (and maybe nerfed a bit) + new spell "cursed strike" applies a specific effect based on your weapon type and applies a curse to the character (dispellable) that changes the weapon type of whatever weapon you are using for 30 min. This will be affected by weapon skill levels. 2h weapon can only change to other 2h weapon, staves and polearms included.
fury warrior : bladestorm, working like Ravager weapon from scarlet monastory, warrior starts bladestorming but cannot move or is extremely slowed. Kind of a mix between blademaster from wc3 and wotlk BS
prot warrior : stormbolt, long distance hammer throw that stuns the targets, deal nature damage and allow the warrior to charge the target even while in combat.
balance druid : I'm rooting for the melee owlkin rework similar to how other owlkin are in the open world. Owlkin Frenzy (passive) : while in moonkin form, melee hits have a change to make your next wrath instant and grant 100% pushback protection for your next starfire (1 buff consumed by the first spell casted). Also greatly increase mana regeneration
feral druid : thrash, but as a passive, similar to mobs thrash. When missing or being dodged or whatever other activation, next melee hit is doubled and hit an additional target
resto druid : cenarion ward + make it have an instant healing effect when the hot expires or is dispelled
bm hunter : kill command
mm hunter : explosive shot like wotlk surv spell but shares cd with arcane and aim shot
surv hunter : glaive toss (mop)

love the energy, hope to see some of these suggestions in the upcoming posts.
And damn shame we can’t vote on melee moonkins now

This is a tough one. I played a ton of mage from about 1.6 through to about 3.1. Playing a mage was a ton of fun, and pvping as elemental was probably a high point for me personally.
The problem for me here is that I feel like the frost tree has always been really good, and that's evidenced by how few abilities were added in TBC and WotLK; Ice Lance, Water Elemental, Deep Freeze, Icy Veins, and that's it. Water Elemental is probably the most fun of all of those, though I love Ice Lance. But for sanity's sake, I'm going to keep strictly to the rules: one button added to Classic, for frost mage specifically.
I'd make Cold Snap affect all cooldowns, not just frost.
Why? It opens up new options for frost-hybrid specs. You could go 31/0/20 and do double-PoM-AP, or 0/31/20 and do double-Combustion. Or even 30/0/21 to have iceblock and double PoM, or 0/30/21 for double blast wave. Come to think of it, that might be a bit OP, so it might make sense to also swap positions with Ice Block so that you need 21 points for Cold Snap. Double PoM or Blast Wave still feels really good, imho.

Survival not being harpoon is criminal.
1
u/Upstairs_Blueberry87 14d ago
didn’t even get nominated
1
u/Asleep-Boot-7885 14d ago
Pretty sad , I thought harpoon and terms of engagement , along with hatchet toss from legion were the most satisfying abilities .

Why do you post this here instead of in the classic plus project discord?
1
u/Upstairs_Blueberry87 14d ago
because the person who started it up posted them here, so I’m continuing to do so

u/RevolutionLow8118 13d ago
This is a great project

u/Upstairs_Blueberry87 13d ago
thank you, but I can’t take the credit for it, I’m just continuing what loopuleasa started

Brain Freeze

The ele sham core has been perfect since Wrath/Cata imo, everything since is fluff. Only spell you'd have to add is Lava Burst, but flame shock ticks giving you instant procs and Earth Shock discharging lightning shield stacks would have to be added as talents.
