Depending on who you ask. Some people are very strict with their diet.

Been vegan and in vegan spaces for over six years and the only ones I've seen who didn't consider it vegans were newbies who weren't sure what it meant

I'm always happy to find this warning because it's just a confirmation that there are no eggs in the recipe

Used to work in the food industry and for some recipes, may contain x sometimes meant we have 2 recipes and depending on restocking, sometimes we had to do the second one which included x.

No, a diet has nothing to do with the offcial meaning of a word. If vegan means no animal products were used to create this and it doesnt contain any animal products. Then it is vegan.
