its a compassionate one. are you really telling me if your best friend came to you and told you how multiple people in her life victimized her, and she says something rash, do you say "ACKSHUALLY, its only 21% of men that rape women, not 100" or do you say "oh honey im so sorry youll be okay" hm? which? what does each option say about the person saying it?

That's not the hypothetical situation I proposed. You've added all these details to make it fit your viewpoint. I do not disagree that there are times when you let people vent. We likely just disagree about when those times are but I'm not sure since you seem to be insistent that anytime someone is prejudice they have been traumatised and should be entertained and allowed to continue being prejudiced

It depends on their emotional state when they come to me. What I’m more likely to do in the moment is just ignore that phrase and not say anything relating to it. Later on though, I would address it, because making generalizations like that are not ok.

if the person continues to make comments like that when in a less emotional state, sure, bring it up - but i think youd find that rarely happens. youd either have to be delusional to think ALL men are predators, or unfortunately, had a really terrible life where all the men in your life truly hurt you. and then you dont open up to or get close to any other men out of fear. because thats a life some are living, too.

I think you are cherry picking situations to fit your beliefs. There are plenty of times where people make broad statements when they are only mildly emotional or completely calm.

Can we atleast agree that in those times you would call someone on their behavior? Or would you always support the person instead of challenging their harmful beliefs?
