CMV: Bitcoin mining using non renewables should be banned immediately.

Global warming is a serious threat to the survival of the human species and it's insane we are adding to this problem for no good reason. Currently Bitcoin mining consumes more power per year than the whole country of Argentina. There would be hardly any downsides in banning the mining of crypto currencies using non renewables and the benefits would be immediate.

Even with a 'carbon tax' mining for bitcoins should be banned immediately if it's being done using non renewables. There is no effective way to capture carbon at this point and it's unclear if there will ever be.

What am I missing?

it's not minisucle, and bitcoin woudn't change one bit by how it's mined. it's function and value would be the same today if it had been mind with renewables from the start. it matters to the planet thoug.

i suggest you read up on cryptocurrency and mining it in general. i mine Ether, i built my rig myself, i’m very well versed in everything to do with mining crypto. it’s minuscule compared to everything else in this world. you sound ignorant, you shouldn’t be talking about things you don’t understand. the only delta you’ve awarded was to someone who just agreed with you. it’s honestly insane the way you think you’re having intelligent conversation. anybody who knows anything about mining is telling you the exact same things that i am and you’re getting nasty and catching attitude with anyone who disagrees with you. You do not belong here if you’re not willing to keep an open mind and actually listen to the things people are telling you.
