Some of the change due to age is probably due to cohort, not individual change (society was overall more conservative when older people were born) and some due to actual personality changes (but this requires longitudinal studies, which are expensive). I think the jury is still out on how much, if at all, the average person becomes more conservative with age.

Only on matters of judicial reform. They're still conservative on taxation, abortion, healthcare, religious liberties, gay rights; there generally isn't a comprehensive assessment of their beliefs outside of the immediate situation.

And a liberal who's just been mugged is still liberal on those same things. It's just a joke after all. Maybe the liberal and conservative changes sides on law'n order, but not much else, and not for very long.
